Is it possible to raise a family while being a patent lawyer? -

Is it possible to balance work and home, i.e. be married and very involved in bringing up 3 children, while being an effective patent lawyer at a good firm.

It all depends on how well you manage your time and what sacrifices you are willing to make. It may also help if you have a babysitter or nanny helping you out. Be aware that it will entail a lot of sacrifices, if you want to do both. You will have to make a personal choice, as both are time consuming Get a copy of Working Mother magazine (or check out in your library) as it is full of articles from working moms including all sorts of lawyers on how they balance family life and work.

Almost all professionals are parents too. There isn t any reason to believe a professional isn t a good parent. Some have to have a spouse or servants to do some of the work but find time for the kids after work and on weekends.

Sure, I m a research Manager at a large company and have several patent attorney s that work for me. My most productive attorney is a young mother and doing a fine job as Mom to two boys just now! Astrobuf
