How far do I cast my net for a lawyer? -

My husband and I may soon be in a custody battle for his first daughter. We are military in Germany and need to find a lawyer willing to do phone and webcam communications. Our home town is about an hour from LA. I need advice on how far out of town I should go to find a lawyer. We have some in town, but I assume the big wig LA guys would be better equiped for our situation. Help!

You want to use a lawyer who is in the location where a possible court case would take place, namely where the daughter currently lives. A lawyer will have to file the court papers in the jurisdiction of the court that will handle the case. So you don t want the lawyer to be in another city. Chances are a lawyer not in the area wouldn t take the case and would refer you to someone local. Also, since your husband is in the military he should have access to free or discounted legal services. Check there on base first and they will be better able to advise you and your husband.
