How to be a practicing lawyer in Australia with a LLB degree from UK? -

Do I have to take the Australian bar exam? Which state is better to apply for? What if I only want to be a solicitor and not a barrister... When is the closing application date?

You haven t said whether you already live in Australia or are looking to migrate here. The following links are to skill recognition requirements for immigration purposes, but I imagine that the same rules would apply for someone already living in Australia who wants to go into practice here: http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/... (for solicitors) http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/... (for barristers)

well that depends. i asume you ll have to take our bar exam, because our legal system is different to the UK, similar, but not exaclty the same. having a LLB should help, but as far as i no, you ll still have to sit the bar exam. as for the closing application date, mid-year applications are i think still open, but you ll have to be quick, otherwise you can wait until december. hop that helps!
