That s exactly what I did, 21 years ago. But my family already had a relationship with the lawyer, so it was ok to call him at home. If you don t already have a working relationship with a lawyer, are there any in your yellow pages with an emergency number? Also I d advise you to start with the police - they may snub you, but they have to write down that you called, and that s an important start. It s very frustrating because the cops usually turn out to be wrong about the snub - just plow thru and make sure there is a record of your call. Bear in mind that if there is no court order stipulating who can and can t take them out of state, this may not even be illegal. It would be a matter of going to court and retroactively deciding who can do what. This is why you re supposed to have it done ahead of time, in case someone gets squirrelly.
If you have court papers not allowing this, then call the police. Just in case the lawyer is not available. I d call on a holiday for this because an emergency injunction might be needed.
I would contact the police first. Then contact a lawyer after the holiday. Some lawyers might have an answering service that might be able to get a message to them at home.
I would, if it were my lawyer that I ve already got. If I didn t already have a lawyer, I d call the police and file kidnapping charges. And/or the F.B.I.
Use the phone and hope they answer..
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. You can call an attorney at home, but that does not make them have to help you out on the weekend, and you would need a judge to enforce anything that a lawyer types up anyway. You can t call the cops either because they will tell you it s a civil matter and there is nothing that they can or will do unless the other parent has broken the law in some other way.
