Where can I find a 1st Amendment (religious) lawyer who will help me with my church? -

I would like to find a lawyer that would help me with the legal details of my church as well as defense. I would like to support cannabis and grow hemp and want to do it legitimately. The midwest would be the best place and Kansas City even better. Cannabis is good according to Genesis, and Romans tells us to defend what is good.

You can grow it to produce fabric, rope, and what ever, exept smoking to get people high.

Try the ACLU. Their good at getting the government to allow stuff like this.

LOL yeah right

Well, if you have a church that has a tradition of using marijuana in its ceremonies, you ll be fine. As an example, peyote cultivation and use is allowed for Native American religious purposes. If you re trying to create a church for the express purpose of smoking up, you re out of luck.

Good luck. Talk to the county atty first; might save you some trouble.

You don t need a First Amendment lawyer, you need a business attorney who can set up the non-profit church status part, and a criminal defense attorney to come up with some way in heck that you can avoid criminal prosecution for growing pot. Good luck with that -- you ll need it. Also, if you were to contact a First Amendment lawyer, he or she would tell you that the First Amendment does not guarantee the rights of a church to break the law. Ask an Egyptian who wants to circumcise his daughter, or a Christian Scientist who wants to withhold medical treatment for a sick child. It won t stand up in court.
