Does it really take 10 years to become a lawyer? -

Our assistance teacher said that shes got this friend whos now a lawyer and it took her 10 years. Do you know anyone who is a lawyer and took them less?

no by one of those lovely yankee degree of te internet

Probably took this person so long for one of the following reasons: 1 - They went to school part-time 2 - They had to take the bar exam on 5 separate occasions. To be a lawyer it s a bachelor s degree (4 years) and then law school (3 years.) Before going to law school (In the U.S.) you have to take the LSAT exam (studying time varies for everybody) and fill out applications and do personal statement. This process takes about a year. Graduate law school and take the Bar exam. I know someone who took it 5 times and she just passed finally.

Only if you are not good at remembering facts and/or not serious to get a better paid employment. Otherwise it takes maximum of 4 years. In UK there are two types of Lawyers - Barristers and Solicitors. To become a barrister, you need to get pupillage with one of the barristers practises. To be a solicitor, to need to be articled. Hope this helps.

To become a lawyer it takes about 6 years. To become a barrister it takes another 2 years on top of the 6 years. To become good they reckon it takes another two years to learn your trade, then it takes another two years in how to rob your clients and get away with it legally!!

Law school is a total of 6 years being you have to have a ba and then the actual law school takes 2 years.

I am currenty in Law School. It took me 4 years to get through undergrad. It will end up taking me around 3 years to get through Law School. Law School on average takes someone anywhere from 2-4 years depending on what schedule they choose. 2 years would be a very accelerated schedule, the standard is 3 years, yet students who only take weekend classes or take terms off end up taking around 4 years. Once you graduate you do have to take the Bar exam, along with a few other things which can take some time. 10 years is quite extreme, but if your assistant teacher was adding all of her time starting with her undergrad schooling and ending with when she actually was able to practice law it could very well have been that long. Most likely she either took some time off or failed her Bar exam one or more times.

In Scotland, An undergrad can become a lawyer in 3 years for an ordinary degree.

Law School is three years. If it took someone 10, then he/she probably should NOT be an attorney.

It depends......how many credits do you have for the school which will determine if your a freshman sophmore...and so on.... the more credits you have the better off you are. and what kind of cases you want to work on.

Well, some schools technically won t make you have a degree, but you ll really want one. You d have to be pretty spectacular to be competitive without one. So let s say 4 years undergrad in whatever (it s lenient). (Could be less if you do college credit in HS). Law school is three years. For the first couple years you could be working as a law clerk to gain experience. But once you pass the bar and have somewhere to practice you re a lawyer.

In the US going through an accredited law school takes 3 years for the day program or 4 years for law schools who offer a night program. Once a person graduates from law school, they have a JD degree but cannot practice law until they pass the Bar Exam. The Bar Exam is a two day test which not only tests the person on basic law principles but on laws specific to the state. This Exam is usually administered twice a year in specific locations. I have heard of some law school graduates who must take the Bar Exam several times to actually pass. Taking 10 years to get through what the majority of US attorneys do in 3 to 4 years would not be something to brag about.

It should only take 7 years for the bachelor s and JD degrees. If you actually wanted legitimate info on this, go to kaplan.com or lsac.org.

Not really it depends on you and how well are you doing your classes.. Normally it can be 5 years and up... Some take 8 and some take 10.. but everyone is different.. This is a carreer that you have to know it s a long education practice and are you willing to hack it, if not then you try for a carreer that will be 2-4 years and just cause it states 2 years does not mean 2 year.. It depends on the person whether they are taking 12 credits a term or doing less which is part time not to over kill themselves ane so it can take longer.
