How hard is it to become a lawyer? -

I want to be a lawyer when i grow up i am aware that i need to work quiet hard and earn the degrees, but can some one tell me whether it is so hard to become a lawyer and will it leave me so stressed that i end up hating my life?

It is hard and stressful. But if you really want to help people, and get paid well doing it, it is a very rewarding job. I am a law student and i have worked for my father for several years. He has been a lawyer for over 30 years. There are times when it can be really bad, because you re usually dealing with people s problems that are the worst problems they might ever have to go through in life, i.e., divorces, bankruptcies, crimes, serious injuries, etc. But when you can make it better for them or give them hope, they really appreciate it. The school part is also very hard and very competitive. If you are smart, ambitious, and can handle the pressure, you will be fine. There are lawyer jobs that tend to have less stress than other lawyer jobs, but they tend to not be paid as well. Also, although law school is very difficult and challenging, it is also a lot of fun. You are surrounded by very intelligent, witty, and usually out-going people who like to debate without taking it personally. Well... some people take it personally, but who cares about them. You have to have thick skin in law school. You are competing against your fellow classmates for your grades and internships but at the same time, you want to be friends with them. It s interesting. Hope you like to read. You will be doing a lot of that.

Thank you. Good luck! Report Abuse

I don t know if you will hate your life. But a lot of people come out very different from when they went in. You ll find that s true about a lot of majors. Computer science will have you thinking of everything as a system after a couple of years. I think you have to work hard through law school to keep the fact that you serve the law and fill your role by advocating for any sort of person or on any side of an issue without coming to see life as nothing but a matter of who makes the most forceful argument. You can come to be a hollow shell of robotic litigator with no real morality but who wins. The people who are both good lawyers and good people have kept their sanity. If you find it hard to handle stress, it might not be for you. There is considerable pressure on many new lawyers (quot;baby lawyersquot;) to handle a full caseload while they re learning. And a lot of them come out with large student loans to repay and are under some pressure to find and keep some kind of decent job.

In UK Solicitor 3 years degree cause 1 year legal practise cause 3 years articles or training contract as it is known now. Then you wil need some experience before you open your own firm but it is better to but into one if you can and they will let you Barrister 3 years degree course 1 years Inns of Court course plus dinners (yes plus dinners at the Inn you are a student to) 1 year pupil After you are called to the bar trying to get accepted by the a chambers if the chambers to which you were a pupil of a member will not make you a member Then you are as good as your last case and the Chambers clerk can make or ensuring ensuring you do not get any work or ensuring that you get work within your capability You are talking of at least 7 years Always remember many are called but few are chosen and some luck is needed after your academic studies

College, law school will be very difficult and the bar exam is very very hard. Many would be attorneys have to take it several times before they pass. It will definitely leave you stressed but I don t think you will end up hating your life. Your choice requires a big commitment. Good Luck
