If you know what you re doing then there is no reason to use a lawyer. But remember what you re facing: USCIS policy these days dictates that someone applying for change of status in the instance you mention is *automatically* in breach of their original visa status. Puts you on the back foot immediately. Personally, having dealt with the INS/USCIS amp; their absolute inability to tell you what the rules are, if it isn t a simple process then I d use a lawyer.

Should A lawyer be used to adjust status of someone on a visa waiver? -
I was wondering if a lawyer should be used to adjust the status of someone getting married on a tourist visa or visa waiver? Ive heard arguments from both sides,but if its done without a lawyer is it harder to get the application accepted? Or can an individual be just as succesful?
