Without legal representation, you are at the mercy of the system, which starts with your Physician s attitude toward the system. Many MD s are reluctant to get a patient all that is reasonably coming to them, as they often make a lot of money from referrals from that very system, or do not want to be professionally attacked as retribution for quot;costing them moneyquot;. Many MD s are hesitant to even apply for the money due them, and will bill the patient for everything which should have been covered, often screwing up the system s application paperwork on purpose. Many MD s feel they are the patient s advocate, and resent any attorneys being involved, even if they are an ineffective advocate due to any reason. It is a personal decision you will have to live with, to give up a percentage of any settlements, which should be based upon whether the settlements would actually occur in proper amount if unrepresented.
