All lawyers are licensed with the state they practice in. Check with the local Bar Association.

if your lawyer is an inmate, that is not a good sign

Call the Supreme Court for the state he is licensed in. They will tell you if he IS licensed, and if he is in quot;good standingquot; (fees paid, no disbarment, etc.). You can also call your state s Attorney Disciplinary Board (usually a department of the state Supreme Court), to see if the lawyer has been discplined or disbarred.

Look in the phone book under Bar Association,usually it is in the yellows pages under attorneys phone numbers.Good luck.
