Can someone become a lawyer if they had a gross misdemeanor on their juvenile record? -

My brother (who was 15 at the time) got arrested for shoplifting and got a gross misdemeanor for it on his juvenile record..i know they seal these up, but im assuming the ABA will reopen them (i dont know much about the law). He really wants to be a lawyer but I didn t know if it was possible or not...anyone know?

He will be fine as long as he tries not to hide it. Also, the ABA does not run the States Bars. Each state makes its own rules. Most states do not allow mail order law school, and Felons, and people in prison are felons. Tell your brother that he can make if he works hard, and you know, it is pretty good work.

First of all any offenses as a minor are sealed when you turn 18 Secondly you do not need to have a clean criminal record to become a lawyer. There are lawyers who have taught themselves law while in prison, then after their release took the bar exam and passed.

Juvenile records are sealed at 18 and no one will able open them, we all make mistakes and that s why they seal juvenile records.
