How do I know who is a good lawyer? -

When someone moves to a new place where they don t know anyone; How do they find out about who is a good lawyer in an area? I know lawyers now where I live mostly through word of mouth. There are countless lawyers in the yellow pages but that doesn t help anyone choose. Any ideas of how to solve this lack of information?

An online strategy that you might wish to pursue is by going to http://www. martindale.com . It is an index of lawyers around the world. You can search by city, by name, by practice area, etc. What you want to look for are attorneys who are AV rated and/or have held leadership positions in the Bar Association or other professional groups. Another independent source of information your local Law amp; Politics Magazine. Each year it publishes its list of Superlawyers in your area. Selecting one of these attorneys is a sure bet for finding quality representation. Expensive representation, but a fine legal practitioner nonetheless. Good Luck.

Easy-go to the BAR Association website for your state and click on find attorneys, There should be a section that lets you fill in an attorney s name and after you submit their name there should be a section you click on to see if there was any action taken on that particular lawyer.
