What type of lawyer should I talk to about a trust fund that I have from my godfather left to me? -

My godfather left me some money in a trust fund, I am allowed only money if i need it for housing, medical, and schooling. I do not know how much is in the trust fund which I will be able to get when I am 25 or 30 years old. I have a lawyer taking care of the money but she is not cooperating with me and makes assumptions on my part.

trust and estate lawyer. that is called a support trust. that lawyer is probably the trustee and you are the beneficiary. you need to talk to a trust lawyer in your state to determine your rights and how you can enforce its terms. btw, inter vivos trusts (set up during the life of the settlor--person setting up the trust) completely bypass probate administration in every state. if it was a testamentary trust (set up and funded after death) then it has already been set up and administered through probate. this is a trust issue not probate although a probate lawyer may do both.

The trustee owes you a fiduciary duty, including a duty to account to you for all the funds. I am not sure why you have a lawyer taking care of the funds. Sounds unnecessary and a waste of money. Get a lawyer who practices in estates and trusts and have him or her look into it.

probate.

Hiring a lawyer for minor legal problems can be expensive, but there are websites like LawGuru, FindLaw and other places where you can get free legal advice. I found this website useful - http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html

My sister recently became a lawyer and I'm afraid I don't know much about what she actually does. What does a probate lawyer do exactly?
