I d suggest finding another lawyer. A simple deed transfer (especially if it s spelled out in a will) should not cost you $2000. In fact, if I m not mistaken, the lawyer has a specific obligation to provide you with a copy of the will.
Depends on your location, but in many states, an escrow office could easily do this for you as well. Additionally, you could also seek the services of a title insurance company which usually has an escrow department, and they too could help you do this. $2,000 is really absurb. You should easily be able to have this done for well under $500.00 Seek out another attorney and / or check with a local title insurance company and / or escrow company. Good luck.
