One note: associates at big firms are paid the same whether they re doing corporate or other work, such as litigation, IP, securities work, etc.

It depends upon the company type (private, public, non-profit), industry, size, etc. Having recruited and hired quite a few corporate attorneys, including GC s, over the years, I would just advise you to meet with a variety of corporate attorneys before choosing that path. It can be a truly rewarding way to go, but it all depends upon the above components.
Depends on the state and firm. In North Carolina, which is a very important state as many of the worlds largest banks are headquartered here, a corporate lawyer will start from 50K up to about 115K. Please be advised that the high numbers usually coorespond to extreme billable hour requirements (in excess of 2200 per year).
When you say quot;corporate lawquot;, do you mean as in-house counsel for a corporation, or a lawyer that helps form corporations and mergers? If the latter, are you talking as an associate, or a solo practicioner? Forget it, the answers don t really matter anyway. Here s the real deal. There are many MANY things you can do as a Lawyer. You can just handle divorce cases. You can just handle Personal Injury. You can just represent criminal defendants. You can just do Bankruptcy. You can just do Foreclosures. You can just do Real Estate matters. You can just do Workmen s Compensation. Yada, yada yada. If you care how much you ll make, you re going to suck as an attorney. The Secret of Life is that we all make a living solving problems for other people, and the trick to being happy is to find one you enjoy enough to do it well. If you go looking for the money, you re going to wind up doing a half-*** job you hate, and in Law, that usually leads to being Disbarred. Good luck, though.
