About how many hours does a lawyer work a day? -

About how many hours does a lawyer work in a day, and what time do they start? Just trying to figure out if this could be a good career option for me!

There s no set number. I have a good friend who does I.P. work in Portland - she works between 10 and 14 hours on any given day. My practice is more generally oriented on business and civil litigation - my days are pretty routinely 10 hours. On the other side, I have a friend who takes a very small case load and only works about 5 or 6 hours a day. If you re working for a firm, they re most likely going to have a billable hour requirement for you to meet, so that goes a long way towards dictating how much you do.

There is no exact answer to this one as there are many branches of law. Private companies may demand a lot of hours, but family-firms work more steady hours. However there may be more personal onus when you are dealing with individuals rather than faceless companies. Court lawyers will need to put in a lot of hours at the start of their careers as they need to be at the top of their game.Gradually however they will get to grips with the law amp; be able to improvise more. Also be able to think on the hoof. I think the dullness of the degree is more of a turn-off! Good Luck!x

50-80 hours per week. It depends on where you work, what type of lawyer you are, and how much money you want to make. Most lawyers get paid by the job, not salary. My best friend is a real estate and corporate lawyer. She works 8-5 most days, the odd saturday, and often takes paperwork or other stuff home to read after work. She also attends business events in the evenings.

Sometimes not many and other times 16hours a day 7 days a wk! It depends on what you are doing, I would only recomend it if you feel strongly about what you are doing, not for money, other wise you may become what people hate a manipulator, liar , thief, or you can be one that wants to do right because it is right, not because of money that corrupts them! They can make anywhere from 30K to millions

My uncle is a lawyer and he sometimes works literally all night into the morning. Even on holidays where the whole family gets together, he is usually working. He doesn t really work a strict number of hours each day, but it is definitely a lot. I think it would depend a lot on what kind of lawyer you are.

it really really depends on what type of law you do...I know some attorneys who put in 12 hour days 6 days a week and I know attorneys that put in 3 hours a day a couple days a week and then leave for a weeks vacation but the law is not a good career right now...try health care, especially nursing

Lawyers work a tremendous amount. Especially new lawyers. A new associate in a medium to large firm can count on 60 to 100 hours a week.

Less than one. I have never meet a lawyer that did his job.

According to my lawyer s bills, it looks like about 28 ;-)

Lawyers work? wow, who knew.
