Is it necessary for my friend to get a lawyer to determine if he will be using copyrighted material? -

A close friend of mine is a magician, and with the release of the new movie quot; The Prestigequot; there is a line they use to promote the movie, as well as in the movie itself quot; The Pledge, The Turn, and The Prestigequot;... He is interested in using these titles to promote a commercial magic act. My question is, is it necessary for him to get a lawyer to determine if it is copyright infringment, or is it ok for him to use those?

The issue won t likely be copyright, but rather Trademark infringement. And it s not a question that can be answered without a detailed investigation of the material he wants to use.

hope this helps http://www.copyright.gov/ I wouldnt think it would be a problem, but he might want to check this site out
