Generally you only have a right to counsel for criminal matters. To get an attorney provided by the government, you have to be charged with a felony in most places in the United States; though some jurisdictions may provide you with an attorney for serious misdemeanors. You should ask. Some communities have legal aid attorneys who will charge you on a sliding scale, based on what you can afford. You will probably have to show some sort of financial records, such as tax returns, or sign an affidavit saying that you are really poor.
You cant afford one. Keep in mind that these lawyers only receive about 300 dollars for your case when they normally make this in an hour. so do you think they will do everything in their power to help you? Probably not
Everyone charged with a crime has a right to counsel. The method of determining eligibility for indigent counsel depends on the state where the prosecution takes place.
