In Canada, like in the U.S., you can file a patent application pro se (i.e., on your own). There is no requirement that you use a patent attorney/agent, although it is preferred for many reasons. The most important reason, in my opinion, is that a patent is a legal document, and a poorly written patent may be invalid and/or unenforceable. http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/epic/site/cipoi... Keep in mind that simply having an excellent idea is not necessarily a reason to obtain a patent. There may be other ways to enter a market, and many successful products/services in the market are not protected by patents.

Is there an easy way to get a patent in Canada, without a patent lawyer? -
I have an excellent idea, but i m not sure how to go about patenting it. If I made a lot of money i d hire a patent lawyer, then again if I had a lot of money I probably wouldn t resort to thinking of inventions to make money. See my dilemma? Shouldn t the government fund a program like this?
