How soon must my husband consult with a lawyer after an auto accident? -

My husband and a co-worker were in an accident on their way home from work. A car full of teens ran a stop sign and pulled right out in front of them. My husband suspects that drinking or drugs were involved because the boys ran from the car trying to flee. 2 of the boys came back and the other 2 took off. Also my husband said he thought he heard a cop say that the driver was only 15 - not even old enough to have a license. Our car was totaled and my husband and his coworker sustained some injuries, and my husband wants to consult our lawyer. Someone told my husband to call the lawyer within 24 hours, but I told him I didn t think he had to call that soon. How soon do we need to call?

Why pay an attorney? let the ins. co. attorneys handle it.........

before the statute of limitations expire...i think its 3 years for auto accidents. if you call within a month of the accident you are fine.

I would call someone as soon as possible. A lot of the accident/injury lawers like to visit the crash site and see if there is anything left to take pictures. I would also get a copy of the police report as soon as possible and ask the police if they are taking any action against the driver of the other vehicle. But call a lawyer soon so that your husband and his co-worker s memories of the accident are still fresh.

As soon as you have the police report in hand. He needs to seek medical treatment soon following the collision. Once you hire an attorney do not let the attorney settle your bodily injury claim until you are done treating for the injuries. You may want to meet with more than one attorney prior to deciding who to hire. The initial consultation is usually free. Take photos of your vehicle, if your husband has nay bruising or other visible injuries take pictures of those. The statute of limitations varies from state to state, but it is 2 years in some and 3 years in others, but that is what you will have to ask your attorney.

Definitely get a copy of the police report for your own records so if/when you go lawyer shopping you ll have something to shwo them and for them to get a opinion on. I would wait until the vehicle s owner s insurance company says they ll pay/or not. If they don t want to pay then get a lawyer.
