You will need a bachelor s degree in any field before getting into law school. You will need a minimum of 90 credits about 3 years of uni studies but most law schools won t get anyone in the 3rd year of their studies. So first pick a program and get accepted into it. For example bachelors of social work, or bachelors of arts. Anything that you like. Then you should prepare yourself for LSAT which is an examination on logic and law skills. they ll give you a score out of 180 and the average for entrance in a good law school is 164 so you must do real good. You can take the exam 2 or 3 times.. Your University GPA is also important. Most schools want a B grade or higher to even consider you. In total it would be about 7 years of study and 1 year includes articling with another lawyer. Here in BC we have way too many lawyers in Vancouver area and some of them go out of work because of it, but in return we don t have enough lawyers in Northern BC and the system is complaining about lack of lawyers in that area. so consider where you d like to work as well. Also consider whether you want to become a criminal, family, or corporate lawyer. You don t have to take any specific courses in highschool or university. Always check the requirement into the specific law school you want to apply to. My assumptions were based on the admition into UBC which shouldn t be much different from other universities. Good luck and hope to see you and myself as lawyers in the future. Never give up law because it might be very difficult and time consuming. Many people who aren t smarter than you get into law schools and you deserve to be in their place.
