What are the best retirement plans for a yong lawyer to consider? -

i am a law school student and i want to know what would be the best way to plan out my retirement. Such as what i would be doing at what age. i am 26 now.

Attorney s make good money. But what kind of retirement plan you would need is dependent upon who you work for...if you work for yourself and you have no employees then I d look into a 401k with a profit sharing option (make sure it allows for Roth deferrals). Once you start making over 300k then I d switch over to a defined benefit plan. You ll want the added deduction that the DB brings along with the extra contributions. After you get out of school...go see a TPA or a Benefits Consultant.

Finish law school and then start a 401(k) plan with the firm that hires you. You have lots of time.

Sorry don t have any retirement plan advice, but here s something on planning for those post retirement needs: A stingy old lawyer who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness was determined to prove wrong the saying, quot; You can t take it with you.quot; After much thought and consideration, the old ambulance-chaser finally figured out how to take at least some of his money with him when he died. He instructed his wife to go to the bank and withdraw enough money to fill two pillow cases. He then directed her to take the bags of money to the attic and leave them directly above his bed. His plan: When he passed away, he would reach out and grab the bags on his way to heaven. Several weeks after the funeral, the deceased lawyer s wife, up in the attic cleaning, came upon the two forgotten pillow cases stuffed with cash. quot;Oh, that darned old fool, quot; she exclaimed. quot;I knew he should have had me put the money in the basement.quot; http://www.ahajokes.com/law022.html

FOR A quot;YONG LAWYERquot; INVEST IN CHINA.

Damn you lawyers! LOL@ asking how to retire at a young age. My answer, I guess is simple. Go after high dollar cases, where you can be heavily compensated. Malpractice suits if successfully won can sometimes be very lucrative. Unfortunately, most malpractice suits aren t won, so they re kind of risky.... Good luck, and I will see you in the Carribean, or Hell.

What qualifications do i need to become a lawyer? -

for my GCSEs I had, History A*, R.E A*, Welsh A*, English B, English Literature B, Maths B, Geography B, Catering B, Core Science C and Additional Science B! For my A levels I am doing English, History, Welsh and communication and culture studies. Then in year 13 i m going to carry on those for but get an AS in biology or business studies, what do you recomend?

I think that you ve made the right choices here. I d stick with them if i was you!

What do you think of Schapelle Corbys Lawyer now he is bad mouthing her family? -

Maybe he needs to spends a few years in an Indonesian Gaol so he can learn some empathy. What do you think?

A really good example that there are 2 sides to every story. I can understand that he is annoyed that they have bad-mouthed him to everyone. However, he did tell the family that Schapelle would be acquitted and she was given 20 years. He is certainly not portraying himself as a professional.

i do not believe that any lawyer would tell his client that they will be aquited. Before i watched the latest Schapelle doco i thought she was innoect but after seeing how her family behaved on that film i really think someone in that family knows something.. i do not believe that she would have even had the defence that she had if it were not for ron berkir paying for everything.. her family says he was after money? well what money did he gain..she lost and really who would care if he was after money as long as she had her freedom what does it matter

He says the truth bluntly. Schapelles family destroyed his career as a lawyer. Her family is very shady. She s guilty and acting innocent. Her whole family is connected to drug trafficking.

I have no idea who any of these people are or what you are talking about.....

How do you become a lawyer in America if you are a solicitor in Scotland? -

I am currently studying Law at Aberdeen University and wish to qualify here and perhaps practice in Edinburgh, but i have always wanted to practice in America, perhaps Boston or New York, but i would like any information on the best way to do this in my current situation. Thanks.

If you want to come to this country, you need the okay from our government - PASSPORT, VISA. Then check your immigrant status - do you have a sponsor in America? That is the first hurdle. If you can t stay here, you can t practice law here. Then you can study to pass the Bar Exam in the state you want to practice. If you pass you can practice law in that state, Massachusetts or New York.

You wouldn t be able to be an actual lawyer in the U.S. without passing the bar. This entails graduating from an accredited U.S. law school, unfortunately. You might be able to work in some sort of advisory capacity at a firm, but as for practicing law here, you would have to actually go through good ol American law schoolin .

If I wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up, what courses would I take in high school? -

Currently, there is no legal studies option for the 10th grade, which somewhat concerns me for my future. But are there any other options I need to take to become in law / a lawyer?

You have plenty of time to study law. Many people who go to law school never take any quot;lawquot; courses as undergraduates let alone high school. For high school, focus on basic subjects that help with critical thinking and logic - English, History, Math. Also, if your school offers it, consider political science courses and joining some kind of debate team (like Model U.N.).

Where can I find a lawyer who assists with apartment issues? -

I have been living in an apartment complex since march and my lease isn t up until Feb.2008 but it s been one problem after another. Things breaking or no hot water are the main problems and the complex takes their sweet time to fix them. I need help getting out of this lease.

I was a property manager in Ohio for over 4 years of a large apartment complex. Before looking for an attorney, you may be better off contacting your local Fair Housing Board (phone book). They often have free services and advice to renters. Depending on the state you live in, will depend on what steps you will need to follow in order to get out of your lease. Do not just leave, this will damage your credit, may occur court costs, etc. Follow the steps of what is given to you. Also document when you put in the service requests, how long it took them to fix the problem (ohio has 30 days to correct), etc. You will also need to provide a copy of your lease for either an attorney or the Fair Housing Board to reveiw. Good luck

u don t need a lawyer just yet. u need to contact the compay express ur concerns and desire to terminate ur lease early. they might be willing to do it if u become enough of a nussiance.

even w/ an attorney, your gonna have to do some leg-work yourself........... you have to start w/ a verbal notice, then written, mailed, proof they recieved it, then you have to give them reasonable time to repair......... if you want to spend your money more wisely, go buy a copy of Tenants Rights for your state. Easy language, step by step, cheaper than an attorney, and you know whats going on all the time, no waiting on the attorney..........

What do you call it when a lawyer gets paid after the court case? -

Its not pro bono thats where its done free. I wanted the word that means paid after the case is done. or after a will or trust is done.

feeding time.

If you are asking what the word is for hiring an attorney based on an quot; They only get paid if you get paidquot; it is called Contingency!

contingency

a retainer. Fee Arrangements In addition to straight-time fees, other arrangements include contingent fees, negotiated percentages, flat fees, hourly charges, costs and expenses, fees set by a judge, or retainers. With a contingent fee arrangement, the lawyer receives no fee unless money is recovered for the client. Upon recovery, the lawyer is paid an agreed-upon percentage, usually ranging from an amount equal to 25 to 50 percent of the amount recovered. A written fee agreement should specify the costs and expenses to be deducted and whether such costs and expenses are to be deducted before or after the contingent fee is calculated. In Washington, a contingent fee arrangement is not permitted for criminal cases nor for domestic relations matters. Even if there is no recovery, however, the client is still responsible for court costs (filing fees, subpoena fees, etc.) and related expenses, such as telephone toll charges, investigators fees, medical reports, and other costs. Negotiated percentages are sometimes used when collecting debts. The fee is based on a percentage of the amount claimed or collected. Flat fees are common for routine services, such as drafting an uncomplicated will or assisting with a simple real estate transaction. Hourly charges are based on the time spent in handling a matter. Rates vary depending on a lawyer s experience or the demand for a particular service. Most costs and expenses are charged at periodic intervals, regardless of the fee arrangement. Filing fees, expert testimony, fees for serving legal summons, and other costs that are advanced by the attorney on behalf of the client are billed separately. Expenses such as long-distance telephone charges, photocopies, etc., are also billed. In some cases, a judge or hearing officer may establish a fee, considering the work and complexities involved in a particular situation. Lawyers fees for probate services are often subject to court approval.

the amounts most lawyers like that get paid, THEFT

Contingent

A contingent fee.

Pay Day!!! kidding......yes it s called what they said!

If the lawyer is paid a percentage of the money collected then they are a quot;contingency lawyer.quot; I think some Probate lawyers may be paid a fixed percentage, too. I am not an attorney. Only a licensed attorney can give legal advise.

Many lawyers are paid a quot;retainerquot; fee, in essence they are paid , before, during, and after a case; a contingent fee.

How much percent should lawyer get for the case? -

Seems my friend got a lawyer to sue some guy and her lawyer told her she will get 20% from the compensation. She doesn’t have to pay only when she wins. So dose an average lawyers with that pay only if you win policy average out to 20% of compensation ordered by the court?

You need to know what state your frined is suing in to be able to honestly answer this question. Attorney compensation on contingent cases (where the lawyer gets paid only if there is a recovery) vary throughout the United States and sometime by case type. In NY, a personal injury file (most car accidents slip and falls, etc) generally is 1/3 to the attorney, 2/3 to the client; wrongful death and malpractice work on sliding scales (the amount the attorney gets increases based on the recovery). In Florida, the personal injury cases are over 30% and I belive malpractice starts at 25%. So, 20% is a real steal assuming that s what the lawyer is getting (from your question, it almost sounds like that is what your friend is getting). The Bar Association in your local area and/or state can give you information regarding typical attorney fees and retainers. As I said, without knowing what kind of case your friend has and what state you are in, it is difficult to answer. But you are right, it does sound wrong that she would only net 20%. Call the local bar association and ask. It s a free and simple service and it s not an unusual questions. They ll be happy to give you the local rules on attorneys getting paid. hope that helps

20% is well below average. Far more typical is 30% if the case settles before trial, 40% if it goes to court. 20% suggests that the lawyer thinks it s a slam dunk that won t take much time and effort from her. (I d note, though, that almost always a contingency fee agreement requires that court costs, filing fees, and any other out-of-pocket expenses come from the CLIENTS share, not the lawyers) Richard

20% seems pretty fair. I have seen some charge 30 to 40%..

Depends on the lawyer, some take 35% (had one of them) while others will take up to 50% (one of the ones we rejected)

Is it true that if u get the service of an Immigration Lawyer it can speed up the process of getting a visa? -

I am married to a US citizen man, my petition is currently pending which is IR-1130 amp; 1-129F(K-3 visa). Some advise to us that hiring an Immigration Lawyer can speed up the petition process but my husband cant afford a lawyer, Is our application can be left behind considering that we just apply it on our own without a lawyer. Pls give me your opinion. Thanks

A lawyer can help you fill out the forms completely and correctly, but he can t make USCIS work any faster or make the calendar go by more quickly. USCIS won t process your paperwork any faster if it has an attorney s name on it. They hardly have time to look for it.

Having a lawyer does not speed up the process in other words your application will not be put to the front of line just because of you had help from a lawyer. All it means is the lawyer will help and assist you in filling out the forms for you, which you are capable of doing. Good luck in your application.

Usually, a lawyer helps. But a K-3 is about the most easy visa you can apply for. You will only get turned down if there is signs of fraud.

I had a friend who was filing for his wife. they went to the lawer first to see the processing times and queotes. Law office pretty famous (a lot of adds in the paper, on local busses, online etc). So he told him that if he goes with him his wife will get EAD in 6 month, her greencard interwiew will be approximatly in 2 years and the cost will be $2,500 (thats back in a day when the pocket cost app $1000). So he realized it will be probably be too expensive and he is smart enough to do it on his own. so he filed. his wife got EAD in 2 month and greencard interview was 6 month later. so, basically he saved his time and money. what i personally think is that when u do it with the lawer then he has a lot of other cases to handle. when letter comes to his office asking for something additional then he is gonna call u in a few days after receiving it and then it is gonna take u a week or two to get it and bring it to the office and another week for lawer to go thorough it and mail it. on the other hand when it comes to your home u r the only one responsible and u get things done quicker. i would only suggest to hire a lawer in a complicated case like handling deportation order, big overstay. so i think u should be fine, those forms are pretty easy to fill out. if u have any questions about it u can always come back here and ask good luck to u PS. 500 savings for vactination????? are u crazy???? the whole healthn test with vatinations cost about $300!!!, i payed $280 (she got 3 shots on the test out of four cus she had chicken pox before) for my wife and it was accepted! (just recently). see, lawyers are ripping u off!!! Irefer to the above answer

Yes, it does. Don t listen to any other answers, I m serious. I ve been through 5 immigration cases, all successful and approved, and my last one was the hardest but fastest, strictly because I used an immigration attorney. The difference: -Immigration attorney certified through AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) are pretty much capable of telling you on the spot if your petition will be approved or denied and do not care about their personal profit. They go through the same legilation training as USCIS does, and many of them turn down your money and your case if it is not good enough. They are also required to be members of the Supreme Court and have a certain number of years under their belt strictly in immigration. Try AILA.org to find some in your area. -An immigration attorney has seen your process done tens of times. They know what to include. If my permanent residency petition was filed without my attorney, I would have not known that my health test does not need vaccinations ($500 saved), or that I need to provide certain pieces of evidence that are exclusive to my case and are NOT mentioned on the forms. They truly look at your own personal unique scenario and tell you what you need to send and what you can leave out. -Most immigration firms provide their own case tracker system that tells you where your form is every week. -The petitions they send are forms that are sent from USCIS directly to them, some in color! All of them are typed, and filed like a binder or booked with an index and a color-coded system for the immigration officer to look at exactly what they need to look at in the ORDER THEY PROCESS IT, not the order people usually submit it. An AILA lawyer knows this. -All petitions by AILA lawyers have a slim chance of denial because they get qualified before they are sent, they include a cover letter mentioning their membership, expertise, and their backing by the Supreme Court (making it look really difficult to deny and pretty much a threat to appeal until approved). Just invest the money. I promise you, I thought i would regret it, and I spent more than $2000, but now I m happy with it because I know I will not get anything sent back asking for quot;more evidencequot; or quot;illegible writingquot; that will delay my case.

How do I switch legal separation over to divorce without having a lawyer? -

I am currently legally separated but I would like to get it switched to divorce. Been legally separated for 6 months now and want a completed divorce, but she won t change it. My ex wife has a lawyer and she is the one that filed for legal separation. I would like to switch it over to divorce but I do not have a lawyer. So how can I do this? I live in Indiana.

Go down to the Court and ask the clerk for the forms that you need to fill out and file. I don t know about Indiana, but where I live and work (Maricopa County Arizona) our Superior Court has all their forms online. You might want to check to see if your county does too.

You re avitar is female...are you really a man? Anyway, I think you will need a lawyer. Uncontested divorces can be as low as $500-700, but is hse s contesting, it could get a lot more expensive. Have you tried asking her what you need to do to move to the next step? If she will not communicate with you, you need to hire a lawyer to communicate with her lawyer. Sorry.

How can I find out a lawyers credentials? -

I d like to find out if the lawyer my realestate agent is recommending is a good lawyer.

American Bar Association - link at www.abanet.org Also, do an internet search of the lawyer s name and see what comes up. A peek at the Better Business bureau website can t hurt either.

check with the state Bar of your state. They should be able to tell you whether the attorney is in good standing or has ever been disciplined by the State Bar.

Unless you work.. there isnt any way...legally....

What is he in jail for and is it worth going in debt to bail him out? Will he be providing financially the instant he steps out the door or will he come home and use up even more funds? Why doesn t he have a public defender since you family can not afford to pay an Atty?

let him stay in jail he didn t something wrong

Is divorce lawyer to celebrities the most lucrative and easy attorney job you can get after law school? -

You deal with multi-million dollar estates, so your fees are likely to be very good. There is always lots of work because celebrities get divorced so often. And the work is easy all you do is say quot;irreconcilable differencesquot; and split it 50-50 since celebrities don t want the attention anyways. It s only a little more difficult when there are kids.

Do I hear a quot;duhquot; anyone?

There is nothing easy when it comes to law. Divorce law is probably one of the most challenging. I would not expect most divorces to be settled all that amicably. Even if the divorce aspect is easy the property and custody issues are always a challenge. You don t earn the big bucks without working hard. I would also not expect to work a 40 hour work week. Lawyers usually put in a lot of hours. Many will work as many as 70 hours or more per week. If you want to earn big money then expect to work hard for it. It it were that easy everyone would be doing it. Clients will not pay big fees to an attorney who doesn t know how to win.

You have no idea what an attorney s job is in this field. If you want to know. Just go to any court room in your your area they are open to the public. All you have to do is sit in the back to get a real education of what the real world as an attorney is like.

Uh, you are forgetting a few things - like how will you convince those celebs to hire you? Also, it doesn t work nearly as simply as your question indicates that you think it does.

It s not as simple as that. they might hire really sharp attorney s, but more likely, you have to earn your way into such a close knit business.

ahahahahaha!!!!! uh-huh.... and streets are paved with gold and lightposts are made of candy canes..... btw- let us know if santa ate all the cookies you left for him....

How do I get a court apointed lawyer? -

My son has to appear for a citation and he is truly innocent of this. The charges are for open container and contributing alcholol to a minor. I am in Iowa, and cannot afford a lawyer, what and how do we do this?

Only if it s a DUI, or a felony or if they face serious jail time, will they be awarded a public defender. Son will need to show up and pay a hefty fine after pleading out.

Go to your local court house and ask them in how to apply for a public defender..they should be an application for you to fill out and send in

states vary, but in general an attorney will only be appointed if he is facing over a year in prison, but Iowa may have different rules. He needs a job and lawyer, fast. He needs to borrow if possible or work out an arrangement. Does he have a skill to trade, paint his house, prune the trees etc.

when he is arraigned, he can demonstrate to the court that he can t afford a lawyer, not you can t afford one, and one will be appointed for him. I suppose you can call the public defender s office ahead of time to get the details.

Talk to your local court and/or prosecutor, they will be able to give you the answer. Unless your son is a minor, and since he s being charged with contributing I would guess he s not, I m sure he s going to have to be the one to request it.

Court appointed. They ll give you one.

He is only entitled to counsel if there is potential for incarceration. In most of these minor cases, the judge will commit to no jail sentence before the trial and then would not appoint counsel. Otherwise, at the initial appearance the judge will ask if he has a lawyer and wants a lawyer and then the judge (not you) will determine if he can afford a lawyer.

The court appoints lawyers for criminal matters .... not civil matters

How much does a criminal defense lawyer make? -

How much does an excellent defense lawyer get paid by the hour, in Los Angeles?

The salary amount varies with location, what kind of law you re practicing, etc. The average salary starting out is estimated from $60,000 to $70,000 per year. The more experienced you are does nothing but helps you; the average for a successful lawyer can be anywhere from $200,000 to a million plus. It s all about where you practice and how much experience is quot;under your belt.quot; But cities such as NY and Washington pay top dollar; large firms can even pay first year associates at $160,000/year.

This depends on the profitability of the crime. When it comes to defending people who beat others up, steal small amounts etc, it is usually a case of court paid (low) fees. If you get a great reputation or are in with big crime people, you can make a lot for as long as you live. The legal profession does try to drag out proceedings to keep lawyers employed, but it is hard to keep the number of lawyers trying to make a living well paid.

havent got a clue sorry

As much as he can

My friend is a lawyer in NJ and is a really good personal injury lawyer how can get more business? -

My friend is a lawyer in NJ and is a really good personal injury lawyer how can get more business? Slip and fall, auto accidents...etc.

Advertise - that s what usually brings in the clients (on the plaintiff s side). I assume that s what your friend wants - is plaintiff s work. If he wants defense work, tell him to join non-law groups - insurance associations (he can mingle with claims adjusters), his local ethnic group association, anything to get his name out there in the community...

i know of a lawyer who actually does part time/ volunteer as a EMT worker. talking about chasing the ambulance

Be creative!

Can anyone recommend a good lawyer in NY? -

Feel free to get in touch on Monday.

What do you do when a lawyer dumps you for questioning the bill? -

My divorce was final Sept last year. The bill came in the mail. Next came a letter from the state attorney general stating the division of property order was rejected because my lawyer used the wrong form. I sent a letter objecting to the invoice to the lawyer. He waits 4 months and sends a letter to opposing council I am not represented by him any more. Then comes a letter answering my questions about the invoice. Now I am summoned to court by opposing councel for the divsion of property order however instead of just transfering the terms to the proper form, opposing attorney knows I am without representation and is changing the terms of the DOPO. Do I pay the invoice and beg forgivness from the attorney who dumped me for questioning his bill? Do I hire a different attorney to help me? Do I pay my former attorney and hire another attorney besides? I don t know what to do.

1. Report your former attorney to your state bar association - this is usually an effective way to get attention to your problem. Describe the lack of responsiveness, the failure to submit the correct form, and the fact that your lawyer informed opposing counsel that he no longer represented you before he told you. You don t mention what state you live in, but firing a client by sending a letter to opposing counsel is generally considered a pretty significant breach of professional responsibilities. 2. Contact your court and find out if it has a family court coordinator, or some similar service to help people who are not represented by counsel navigate the system. The coordinator would be able to give you general advice about your rights in this situation. 3. Look for new representation. Take your time. Don t rush to hire someone just because you have a court date. The court may be able to point you toward a free legal aid service that would be able to assist you. If you do hire a new lawyer, check with the bar association to find out if your attorney has had any complaints. The new lawyer should give you an engagement letter spelling out his/her responsibilities, how fees will be billed, and confirming that he/she will be responsive to your calls. Check it out - give the lawyer a call and see if it gets returned. You should never have to wait longer than a week for a return call from your attorney, at least setting up a time to talk at some future date (and that s really too long) - any longer than this, and you should just get a new lawyer. 4. If you have to go to court by yourself before you find a new lawyer, be prepared to explain the situation to the judge - explain that your old attorney apparently isn t representing you anymore, and that you don t understand why the proceeding is happening, but you are trying to get a new lawyer. Bring all the papers you have received in regard to this situation. Ask for a continuance until you can locate counsel. I would be completely astonished if the judge didn t grant a continuance. And finally, be prepared that you may have to pay some portion of the invoice from your old lawyer. Likely your attorney did manage to do something for you, so you probably owe something on the bill, but you shouldn t have to pay all, and of course you re entitled to question the charges. Good luck!

hire another lawyer to help you with the property division and then to sue your other lawyer for failure to do his job and contest the invoice.

Get another attorney. And make sure you re suitably represented this time.

I would go consult with another attorney about what to do. Sounds like a very sticky situation.

Go get another attorney and think about filing for malpractice. Using the wrong form is direct malpractice.

I d hire another attorney and lodge a complaint with the Bar Association against this one.

Hire a new, better, more knowledged lawyer to handle everything.

You are pretty well screwed. I would stick with the old attorney as he is familiar with the case. I know it sucks, but they don t call them blood suckers for nothing. Getting a new lawyer will be more expensive and I somehow doubt that your old lawyer will get into any trouble by you raisng a stink. What you will do by getting a new lawyer and trying to fight your old lawyer is a lot more expense and many more headaches with little to no payoff.

How long will it take for this lawyer to settle with me? -

I don t have a lawyer but i faxed all the information over the guys lawyer that hit me, now i haven t heard from the lawyer, or anything? I need my money now!!!!!!! How much longer is this going to take? Need more info look at my previous questions.

if you want to speed up the process get a lawyer for yourself, or at least find a pre law student that is willing to help you learn about the laws of your case. If you want to get the attn of the other guy s lawyer...hahahahaha I worked in a law office for a few months it was a trip! Lawyers are all bs and smoke. Return a call, the only lawyer that ever even cared about me really, was one that was a friend of my family since he had been a kid! That lawyer is working for the other guy not you so he isn t going to work any faster than what they guy is paying him, god awful truth! Good Luck because if you don t have a lawyer of your own you ll need it. as for getting any money right away you might as well look somewhere else, even if you are awarded any money if the guy who is supposed to pay you doens t have it, you might be getting it in payments over a period of time..... hope this helped a little good luck

no case in the court can be settle without delaying!

The other lawyer is going to totally ignore you. Why would he do anything unless you take him to court? You can whine amp; complain for the next billion years but it is unlikely to cause the lawyer to do anything other than laugh at you. If you don t have a court order, you are wasting your time.

If this is a lawsuit, and the lawyer is working on an hourly wage rather than a contingency fee, it could take quite a while.

Lawyers and courts can delay cases for years sometimes. There is no way to be sure what delays may happen. Sometimes a delay can actually help you. I would go to my local clerk of superior court, and ask to see the case file if the case has already been presented before the court. You can file your own motion. Find a similar motion like you would file, and basically use the same words changing only what is applicable to your own case. If another person is trying to avoid paying a sum that is due to you, find an attorney or a legal aide that will assist you if you feel you need help.

You will probably never see dime unless you get a lawyer. And the longer you take to hire a lawyer, the more mistakes you will make, enabling his weasel of a lawyer to reduce his clients liability. Why is your insurance company not covering your medical expenses and seeking the restitution from the other driver?

My case took about two years, but was a wrongful death suit....It was by nature more serious.... All I can tell you is hound this lawyer at least once a week. They will drag it as long as they can, if he doesnt seem to want to get it settled, threaten him you will be getting representation if he keeps blowing you off. Why don t you have a lawyer???

How much would I make as a corporate lawyer if --? -

Okay so my uncles a really good corporate lawyer in New York.. hes one of the best.. if I became a orporate lawyer in Manhattan like him how much would I make? (most likely) Would I get paid more if he gave me some help by getting me a job? Or I used him as a reference? Also what are the best schools (first four and law) to go to?

Current Corporate associates in big firms (AMLaw 200) start at $160,000 -- but you are required to work a LOT. Here is an interesting article on current mid level associates: http://www.abajournal.com/news/200_k_pay...

For a corporate lawyer, there is a huge difference between someone fresh out of law school, versus quot;one of the bestquot;, with years of experience. I would guess around $100K from an ordinary law school, and maybe $140K from Harvard and graduating near the top of your class. For a top lawyer, with 15 years experience and a lot of success, double or more $300K or more. The biggest help your lawyer uncle could give you is: 1. Ask him how to get into law school. 2. Ask him how to go about getting a good job when you graduate. He could be a lot of help advising you where to look for a job. He s only a little bit of help as a reference, because - how would he know how good a lawyer you will be? He just likes you because he s a relative. Good luck!

apply to places you will get into and some other places...... obviously the ivies have great national reputations however in general sometimes places more into the location have better local reputations..... your best bet is to ask your uncle for advice he might be even able to ask his colleagues and really if you are just now applying to undergraduate college..... remember to keep your grades HIGH and be involved so you have a better chance at getting into law school and keep up on when you will have to take the LSAT and what you can do to prepare for that..... in four years thought you might not even like the idea of being a lawyer so remember that other things are also open to you

Can a written marriage agreements without a lawyer stand up in court? -

My boyfriend and i want to get married for more practical than love reasons. But we want to make sure that neither have complete power over the other. If we make an agreement without a lawyer, written and signed with more than one witness that we can annul the marriage without the others consent, can this piece of paper stand up in the future? I live in New York City.

No. You have to buy a license, You have to go to court to end it. You can exclude property from quot;communityquot; but for the rest, bite the bullet and hire an attorney. Actually you can try NYU Law School.

The terms you propose for your quot;marriagequot; defeat the purpose of marriage. A marriage cannot be annulled without the consent of the other (unless you go to court for a contested divorce) and as for quot;power over the otherquot; the spouse always has power of attorney over their spouse s well-being as their next of kin (that is, if the other spouse is unable to speak for him or herself). If you don t like those features of a marriage then there really is little practical reason to get married (I don t even think those terms would hold up in court).

What are the requirements to become an Environmental Lawyer? -

I need to know the qualifications and requirements. Thanks in advance.

go to law school

a law degree. It would help to also have some scientific/environmental background, but not essential. Real estate knowledge also helpful, but all that can be learned in law school

Usually one gets an undergraduate degree in environmental science and then applies to Law school. You have to meet the Law school requirements while getting the science drgree, so plan ahead.(Be in contact with several schools you are interested in to know the req.) Requirements are Language arts and communication, writing, sociology and psychology, history, math, and the science component.. The classes vary from school to school.

What is it like to be a LAWYER? -

I am thinking about going into the law profession. I think I will specialize in family and school law. I really want to be able to live confortably with my family, and be able to provide for them. Is a lawyer a good career choice?

I am not a lawyer and never went to law school. But, I know many lawyers and most do not practice law. This is what they told me...as best as I can remember... Most told me that they knew after the first year of law school that they did NOT want to be full time lawyers. Amazing! Since they also completed their schooling and also went-on to take their bar exams. There are more lawyers that do not practice law, than do. The same probably goes for doctors too - they slave through medical school, do their internships and residencies, and then decide, quot;This is not what I want.quot; If you want to practice law, you will most likely have to work for a law firm. Be prepared to do all of the grunt work. The quot;partnersquot; in the firm are the ones that sit back and make the big easy money. You will be treated with less respect thant he paralegals. The pay is pretty good, but the hours are long. A funny thing about law firms is that they seem to have invented the 36 hour day. That is to say, when you look at their billable hours (how they charge clients) it seems like one attorney is able to work 3 cases in the same time frame. About the best legal positions you can get are as a corporate attorney. Those people generally farm-out all of the real legal work to other law firms. They are mostly just conduits for the business. It s like, quot;Hey Sally. What do you think of this? I want to get your approval on this contract before we move foward.quot; The answer is usually, quot;Ok, let me take a look at it and get back to you later this week.quot; (In other words, let me send it over to the real lawyers at the law firm that we use, have them charge us $200 an hour for a paralegal to look at it, and give me their thoughts so I can give you my thoughts.quot;

I really want to be able to live comfortably with my family, and be able to provide for them.

Can I change courts if my lawyer has become a judge in the court im being charged? -

Because he has past history with you, he should recuse himself. You could ask your current lawyer about this.

What is the difference between a lawyer and a carp? -

One is a bottom feeding, scum sucking, slimy low life, the other is a fish.

Why won t a shark bite a lawyer - professional courtesy What is a shame? - a busload of lawyers going off a cliff What is a crying shame? - there was an empty seat on the bus What is black and brown and looks good on a lawyer? a Doberman Pinscher How many lawyer s jokes are there- just 5 - the rest are true stories.

Lady Ivy -- you re only wasting your own time if you answer what you consider a lame q i thought it was cute! and i used to work for attorneys, so i can say that

One is a qualified professional adviser on legal matters who can represent clients in court, and the other is a large freshwater fish. Though I really like the one from Answer 2. Stop wasting our time.

Oh! I got another one! What s the difference between a legitimate question that belongs on Yahoo! Answers and a lame, unoriginal joke that wastes my time? (I ll leave the punchline up to you.)

Q: Why do so many people hate lawyers? A: Because the only time they ve hired one is when they were going through a divorce. Makes sense when you look at it that way. How unbiased could they be?

You re poking fun at lawyers! The cornerstone of society!! How could you;)

lol The carp can close it s mouth Why are people giving us thumbs down? It s a joke! Get over yourselves! P.S. You don t HAVE to answer all the q on YA

Can you put a public of notification in the newspaper without a lawyer? -

It s for paternity and custody, a petition has been filed, but she (birth mother) won t sign the waiver (after she said she would). So now we have to do a public of notification, but if we can do it without a lawyer, it would save a lot of money. If this can be done someone please let me know and how. We have no birth certificate and can t get one until his father is put on there, but we have to go to court to do that. So if anyone knows how to do it or something else we can do, please help!!!!

Contact the court and find out which newspaper counts as official for public notification purposes. When you contact the newspaper, they will likely have sample you can crib off of.

Is it smart to apply for a fiancee Visa without a lawyer? -

The lawyer wants $1750.00. I have experience with government forms, but no experience with immigration matters. Additionally, I am seeking a waiver of the quot;meet in-personquot; requirement based on her society s cultural practices that would make us subject to violent ridicule. Also, her country is on the US travel warning list--Americans are strongly warned to avoid travel to her country. Ideally, some attorneys will take the time to answer. Thanks for your time.

With your requirements, I would strongly sugguest an attorney, otherwise you stand little to no chance of being approved. It s intensly difficult to begin with to get a fiancee visa approved, and considering you two will know nearly nothing about eachother, that gives you even less of a chance. Been there with someone who s country WASN T on the travel warning, who I have known for many years. A girlfriend of mine also worked for Immigration amp; Naturalization, and during discussion a few months ago mentioned that visas under similar circumstances are exceptionally rare.

Use an attorney. Make sure it is someone who really knows what he is doing. I had an attorney when I wanted to apply for a fiance visa and he took the time to explain to me the difference between doing it yourself and through a lawyer. He was really nice because he did not push me to use him just for the money. One of the things that make a difference is how you met. If it is someone you met online, you definitely want to use a lawyer. The lawyer will know any changes in the laws and keep updated, you won t. The lawyer will tell you everything you need and will make sure you have everything before you start so that all will go well, plus sometimes they have connections. If you do it by yourself and you don t have everything you need or you do something that will cause a delay, it can take a very long time for it to go through and even after that long wait, there is no guarantee that your fiance will get that visa. With a lawyer, once everything is provided and there is no delay, it will only take approx. 3 to 4 months if the person is coming from a foreign country. I am not sure how long it will take for someone from Canada since it is closer. Believe me, it is worth using a lawyer. If you are in the New York area, I can give you a great lawyer. He has the experience. He is really nice too. Good luck. Here is his information:

yes ...and very easy. read the application it will tell you what to provide and in three months ur fiancee will be with u

I think you will be fine. The hardest part is filling out those damned forms! They read like tax forms...a language I someday would like to learn. Also about the quot;violent ridiculequot; what country is it? Iraq? I think you could hire an armed guard, but that may not be possible. Just think though, you are putting youself in the face of danger for your love. Kinda like James Bond.

an attorney will only take your money and take his mistress on vacation instead i would visit the DHS formerly INS and talk to someone that will give you the ins amp;outs keep in mind that the dept of DHS will do you the same as if you had an attorney they pull no punches the law is the law...

can t you just find a nice american girl to marry??? jjeezz

I did not use an attorney to bring my fiance here. The process took a little under 6 months to process and yes, I made an error. But you can save the bucks and do it yourself. One other thing, unless you have solid proof about the quot;meet in personquot; waiver, they will deny you. I tried that route myself and was denied the first time. Contact me for additional information.

What is the meaning of liability insurance of a lawyer? -

?s there any example of a policy form relates to liability insurance of a lawyer

an attorney s mistakes/negligence can substantially affect lives and thus expose the lawyer to suits... like all other companies, insurance is needed for protection.

It means to avoid him at all costs. He s no good! You are better off representing yourself!

What happens when a lawyer commits perjury in court and in legal documents? -

lol, I never knew lawyers told the truth in court or legal documents.

Perjury is knowingly making a false statement under oath or by way of affirmation. You refer to signing a quot;legal documentquot;, but you don t say that the statement is under oath or by way of affirmation, and you don t say if the false statement was made knowingly. Assuming your statement that perjury was committed is consistent with the principles stated above, perjury is a criminal act, and must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. You don t say where you are located, but different jurisdictions would have different rules about how to initiate a prosecution for perjury. A lawyer who commits perjury would also be subject to disciplinary measures from his professional governing body.

First he has to get caught, secondly he has to be dumb to commit either one, and third, he would get stripped of his license to practice.

He can be sanctioned by the court with either fines, jail time or both and his license can be suspended or revoked.

Well, look what happened to Bill Clinton. He lied under oath, got impeached and lost his law license.

nothing new, HES a lawyer!! they look for loopholes and lies are just part of the loopholes!

They usually go into politics.

Can i hire a lawyer to accelarate my immigration process? -

well my brothers applied for our immigration in the united stated 9 years ago.we still have 2 more yrs to complete our immigration.is there any way my brother can hire a lawyer to accelarate my immigration process?

I m doing the process for my wife. We ve been doing it for 3 years now. I even enlisted the aid of my congressman, but that doesn t help. I have heard from congressmen directly the immigration system is quot;brokenquot;. Still you can try a lawyer, if I wait much longer I will too.

NO lawyers are NOT given any special treatment. you must wait in line just like everyone else. If that means you have to wait 4 or 5 years then thats what you wait. By what right do you think you have to jump the queue and be put at the head of the line over the millions of others who are also waiting. You are not special. You are JUST a number.

You can hire a whole law firm. However, your brothers have a priority date and they will not get visas until that date arrives. Everyone waits his/her turn in line. You need to be patient.

you can hire a lawyer for anything these days as long as you ve got the denario .

A good immigration lawyer could help.

What does it take become a lawyer and how many years will you be in school ????? -

My sisiter-in-law and i wants to become a lawyer

She has to attend a four year university and earn an undergraduate degree. She ll need decent grades. Then, she can apply for law school. Law school averages 3 or 4 years.

It first requires the right character traits such as those displayed by Hilliary Clinton. You must be able to lie but make think people you are telling the truth. You must be able to change your opinion depending on who you are trying to impress even when you previously defended the opposite opinion only months, days or even minutes earlier. You must be able to do so with such little self respect that you support your husband who used his position of power to induce a vulnerable young intern into quot;sexual relationsquot; and embarrassed you publicly for all the world to see when any other self respecting woman would have kicked his lying, cheating butt to the curb. But you support him because of your own desire for political gains. Besides that you have to take an exam called the LSAT before applying to law school. In general law school takes 2-4 years depending on whether you are full time or part time.

You usually have to have a 4 year bachelor s degree first. Then take the LSAT, get your recommendations and personal statement together and apply to law school. Law school usually takes 3 years. Then you have to pass your state s bar exam.

In the US, most lawyers go to law school for three years after getting an undergraduate degree. That means they are in college for seven years. There are a few states (including Virginia, Maine and California) where you can become a lawyer without going to school. In those states, you can apprentice with a lawyer. In order to practice, you have to pass the Bar Exam. Outside the US, things are often different. For example, in the UK and Australia, law is an undergraduate degree.

What does a good child support lawyer in NC usually cost? -

I would like to file a civil suit for 8 yrs of back child support. The father disapeared soon after I became pregnant and I have been trying to find him and establish paternity and child support for 8 yrs. Finally found him and we live in different states. I dont want to go through the state system to do it if possible. Also the name of a good lawyer would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

Go through the state if you can. It sounds like a hassle but its free and a lawyer will cost lots of money. They do paternity in different states no one will have to travel. GOOD LUCK!

How does one go about finding a good lawyer? -

I have a malpractise case I need represented and have no idea how to find a lawyer. I live in a small town so there isn t much to go on... how do you get a good lawyer?

In small towns it s hard to find an attorney to take a malpractice case (I m assuming it s medical). Those cases are very difficult and expensive to pursue. If you call a local attorney, even if he can t take your case, he probably knows of someone who might. That attorney might practice some distance away, but once you find him/her, you ll get a good opinion on whether your case has value.

call the State Bar and ask for names of lawyers who specialize in malpractice. See if the lawyer has had complaints filed against him, they`ll tell you if the lawyer has and how it has been disposed of or IF it is pending. There should also be some listings online in your area

Find out the best law firm in your city or state. For example in Detroit there is a high profile lawyer Geoffrey Fieger who defended Jack Kevorkian in an assisted suicide case that was a huge media circus. I had a malpractice suit, and even though his office did not handle those cases they gave a referral to another firm. I ended up winning the case. At least for Michigan there is no point going for 2nd best in malpractice cases. Because whatever law firm you take on is going to be paid on contingency - 1/3rd if you win, nothing if you lose. You pay the same if you get a great firm or a shoddy one and you only get one crack at it so just get the best.

Try the site below, this is an affordable way to get access to a TOP Law Firm in your State. Watch the online movie presentation. The second site is another way to located an Attorney. I wish you the very best.

Google quot;Martindale Hubbell Law Dictionary.quot; That ll give you a list of just about every lawyer and law firm in the country, and they give lists by specialty. That ll help you find all the lawyers in your area who specialize in malpractice cases. After that, the best advertisement for a lawyer is word of mouth. Be leery of lawyers who advertise on TV -- they re usually unscrupulous, unethical, and in it just for the money. Ask around. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against any lawyer you re checking out.

Contact your local county Bar Association for attorney referrals. The attorneys listed on the local bar association list should each carry their own malpractice insurance on themselves. Also, word of mouth is one of the best ways to find a competent attorney. However, be sure that you find out if the attorney you are looking at hiring is competent in the particular type of case you are pursuing for a lawsuit. Each state has a state bar association website. Look up the attorney s name you are looking at hiring on the state bar association website and see if they have had any complaints/grievances lodged against that particular attorney. Finally, before you just rush out and hire an attorney because the attorney quot;looks goodquot; on paper, meet with that attorney and see if your quot;gut feelingquot; tells you that this attorney is the one for you and your case. Also, if after you hire this attorney and you decide you no longer want this attorney representing your case, you can always change attorneys by firing them. One caveat, however, to be aware of is that if it is too close to the trial date for your case be tried, the judge for the court your case is filed in may not allow that attorney to withdraw from your case.

Martindale is generally considered the best resource but nothing replaces word of mouth. P.S.- Don t forget that if you are not happy with your first choice you can switch to a different lawyer.

Which College should you go to to be a Lawyer? -

If you want to be a Lawyer, which college should you go to? Any college or only colleges that offer law classes? And which classes should you take in college in order to go to a good Law School?

Any college which will guarantee you a good GPA. Take classes that will get you a good GPA. It doesn t matter very much where you go to undergraduate, but you will want to go to a good school for undergrad or law schools will have no idea where you are coming from and throw your application away. Go to USNews and look at the law schools. Do not go to anything outside of the top 100.

Harvard Law School. The movie, Legally Blonde, is based on a girl who takes college in Harvard Law, and hopes to become a great lawyer, and the diva of the school! I ve visited that place, it also takes place in Boston, Massachussets. It is very beautiful!

U of M...good luck.

When to settle, how much to settle and do I need a lawyer? -

I was a passenger of a car accident (not at fault party) back in December. I obtained whiplash (shown in x-rays) and have suffered with migraines, backaches, neckaches, and shoulderaches daily since then. I have been on multiple meds, tried physical therapy (4 months), chiropractic treatment (still going), cortisone shots, and nerve blocks, none of which have helpd. CT scan and MRI came out negative. Most recently I had my nerve endings burned with radio frequency. I am positive this make my pain go away, however it is not a permanant solution, it may only last up to a year. So far I have $12,000 in medical bills. I may need future care. How long after I am pain free should I settle? What can I expect to settle at? Also can I get future money for care without a lawyer? I am not looking at making a ton of money, but I have suffered quite a bit. It changed my life tremendously. I mess up the simplest of tasks because the pain and meds. I can t enjoy the things I would normally do.

You just need an Lawyer. I know you are not overflowing with money but I can give you a better solution. Just check out the following link and fill a simple form. You will get legal advice in just $1/day within 24 hrs. Trust me. Here is the link http://www.usalegalcare.com/ Good luck

These are most definitely lawyer questions and you need one for the whole nine yards starting now. Also, once you settle, you can t go back for more. Trust me, the insurance company you deal with is going to have a whole team of extremely experienced lawyers to help them spend the absolute minmum on you they can get away with. You need decent representation to make sure you get a fair shake. Good luck!

I think you need to ask a lawyer all of your questions.

Why would a lawyer decide not to become a judge in family law? -

In the case of family law, why would a lawyer decide NOT to eventually become a judge?

Same reason a ballplayer decides not to become an umpire. Big cut in pay.

tough emotion filled area of law!

mabye they want the excitement of being a lawyer vs the reliability of being a judge.

Family court is tough to deal with. You have to see families fighting all the time. It s sad!

1 they don t want to be a judge 2 they don t like family law 3 they make more money than judges

How long does it take for you to become a lawyer? -

Ok, so I want to be a lawyer [civil rights to be specific]. I have two questions. How long does it take after high school to become a lawyer?? Also, I know you have to go to college for 4 years, but then do you do have to go a university specifically for law? Thanks!

Like everybody says--4 years (or less, if you re ambitious) for an undergraduate degree, then 3 years (again, less if you re ambitious) for a law degree. You take the bar exam in the July after you graduate law school. Assuming you pass, most states swear you in as a licensed attorney in the November following the bar (about 3 mos. later). Word of warning, though: It s true that some law firms will let you work before you ve actually been licensed. But many groups practicing civil rights law are non-profit, and can t afford to pay you until you re licensed--so you should be prepared to work on a volunteer basis until then.

Yes, you go to college for 4 years, then to law school for 3 years (assuming you go full time).

In what country? In the US, you need a bachelors (usually 4 years) then law school (3 years). July after law school, you take the bar exam, then start working in the fall. It usually takes a year after taking the bar to be admitted and officially be a lawyer, but you can do a lot of work for a law firm, etc in the meantime.

Yes, 4 years undergraduate work in college, and 3 years of law school

What is better, to be a graphic designer or an immigration lawyer? -

What is better, to be a graphic designer or an immigration lawyer? I am in high school, with a 4.0 GPA, I speak Spanish. I don t know what to be because I always wanted to be a lawyer (maybe because my parents are), but they say that graphic design is good, too. I think I like both but I don t know. can you advised me and tell me why chose one or the other?

You need to have God given talent to be a good graphic designer, not just someone with a killer software suite. If you don t, do the lawyer thing. Both can be stressful, but at least as a designer you can be artistically creative.

That s true about having a job for that, you ll never get fired... If your parents are lawyers I m sure they want you to follow in there foot steps but don t do it because your parents want you to do it because you want to. Graphic design is good and if you like it then you could do that first and later if you loose interest then you can always change jobs because you have the lawyer career in your family bloodline. You could always look into being an interpreter for the court system. I wish you the best....

Wow... am immigration lawyer huh... Well with that you would always have work. But if you truly like graphic design I would go with that.. Only you can know what is best for you.

A graphic Desinger

What do you like better? What do you think you are good to.. Then you have the answer...

Where can you get a good lawyer for free in your county? -

How can I find information on a defense lawyer? -

I need help on finding out what a defense lawyer is.

A defense lawyer is the lawyer who represents the accused (the quot;defendantquot;) in a criminal prosecution. He may be hired directly by the defendant himself, or appointed by the State if the accused can t afford his own. (A Public Defender) Richard

What Happens to the Medical/Legal Records When a Doctor or Lawyer Quits? -

When a doctor or lawyer quits his practice for any reason, what happens to all the records that are in the office? Let s say there are no junior partners to take over.

Depends on whether the Professional was an employee of the group or a partner with equity ownership amp; whether the file is quot;openquot; or closed. If the professional was an employee, the group retains ownership of all closed files. It also retains ownership of any open, on-going files IF the patient/client remains with the group. If the patient/client chooses to go with the moving professional, s/he has the right to have his/her files transferred (tho the originating firm may keep copies) If the professional was an equity partner, ownership would be determined by the partnership agreement. However, here again, the patient/client has an absolute right to transfer his/her treatment/representation to the withdrawing partner. If the doctor/lawyer is a sole owner and ceases practice, state law for doctors, and law or Bar Assoc. rules require (a) existing or recent patients or clients be notified amp; given an opportunity to retrieve their files. If that cannot be done -- say if the professional dies suddenly, (b) that records be maintained for a period of time by (depending on jurisdiction) either a designated person in the same profession, the professional s executor; or a custodian or trustee apppointed by a court.

I guess they get passed on to your new doc or lawyer?

If it is a lawyer, they are required to send a letter to all clients notifying them that they will no longer be representing them and asking the client if they would like the records returned to them or to another lawyer.

You should get a letter stating the closure and asking where you want the records sent. If someone else buys the practise then they get the records. They have to pass them on to your new doc or atty. at your request.

Most states require doctors to keep records a certain number of years and let patients know what happens upon their retirement - such as being stored. As for a lawyer, even if he quot;quitsquot; practicing he has to do something about his ongoing cases and inform the client. The file usually belongs to the client (this varies from state to state) and teh client should be able to pick up the file and go seek another attorney.

What is a good major for a prospective lawyer? -

I am considering law as a potential career? What would be a major that would help me become a lawyer? I am currently interested in international relations/international business/political science. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!!!

Those who enter law school come from many different academic backgrounds ranging from business to health and everything in between. Personally I feel that psychology and philosophy helps to prepare you for life at law school. Both subjects develop your critical thinking skills as well as improving your reading, analytical and writing abilities. Other majors to consider: Business, history and political science.

At most schools the political science department has the majority of aspiring lawyers. You should join the pre-law clubs that are offered on campus.

Pre-law (if offered) Political science Business International Business Communications History

Political Science Communication Business

Major in English would be good because lawyers do tons and tons of writing.

Whar are the current fees by a lawyer for obtaining a K1 Fiance Visa in California? -

Deciding whether to fill out the paper work myself for a K1 Visa or to have a lawyer take care of it.

If you can speak and read English, why pay an attorney to fill out the I-129F Form. The instructions are self explanatory. You can also use USCIS.gov as an important tool. All the immigration forms are on that site. Once you file if anything is missing you will be given a chance to provide the information.

How much does a lawyer get paid? -

want to know how much a lawyer or attorney gets paid either Annually or PCM(per calender month)? If i have used the words wrong, I mean the guy up the front in a suit defending the defendant etc. and in british please. Thanks. And no more depends i want an average.

In UK, a beginner can aspire for an earning of about £35 ,000, rising to £45,000 in 5 years. In USA, they can earn $85,000/year,9 months after graduation. And this increase every year. The above figures apply to private practice. If they enter jobs with attorney companies they can aspire for about 1.5 times more.

The range is quite large. It can be from $50,000 to $500,000. I m sorry but it really does depend on the type of lawyer and what type of law they are in. Those who go into public law are paid the least. Some tort lawyers can make millions of dollars but there really aren t that many of them.

Depends on the type of law you practice and how good you are.

And no more depends. Ok but lawyers earn more or less depending on their knowledge This guy wrote a overview read it http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_money...

too much for very little

Question about lawyer fees for bankruptcy? -

We are planning on filing for Chap 7 bk. We contacted a lawyer and his fee was $2400, which includes all filing costs. He said no lawyer would take a payment plan and file the bk without being paid in full first. 1. Is the fee fair, low or high? 2. Is this true that no lawyer will get the bk filing process underway without being paid in full?

That fee is very high, and yes, it s crazy to charge a high fee like that because if you don t have money, how can you afford it. I filed last year and it cost me almost 1300.00, had to use my tax return money to do it. Here s a tip though, double check in your area and see if you can find a cheaper attorney, don t call them, go in person, most will see you on a free first consultation and after they look at all your income, debts, assets, they can possibly tell you what you can avoid paying certain bills so that you can come up with that money. A chapter 7 should run you from 800.00 to 1500.00 The filing fee for a chapter 7 is a little under 300.00 so the rest is the attorney s fee...he s making good money off of filing! I used to work for a bk attorney, we used to set up two payments before the creditors meeting and yes, some do want to get paid in full as you only have one meeting and the reason being is that the fees have to be paid upfront to the courts, so the attorney is not going to pay these for you out of their own pockets..they can t bill the courts. How they do it is to get paid then they get you a case #, which then stops all the creditors from calling you. Call around your area and see if you can find someone that is cheapter than 2400.00, that fee is really too high. Good Luck!!

Crazy isn t it! If you are filing a chpt. 7 how can you possibly afford $2400.00 up front? However, the attorneys in my state charge more like $1200.00 amp; you must pay it before the quot;meeting of creditorsquot; So they give you a couple of months. Keep in mind that chpt. 7 is VERY difficult to get now days.

What should I wear while interning with a respected prosecution lawyer? -

I m a 20 year old female planning on interning at a well-known firm this fall and I need to know what would be the appropriate attire. Should I wear a suit, or would nice slacks and a collared shirt be acceptable? Other suggestions?

Both are appropriate, depending on the circumstances. Your first day of work should be in a very formal and conservative business suit/dress. Make it a point to ask your boss how to dress in the future. Simply say, quot; I do not know the office culture, but I realize you do not have time to go into this with me; who do I ask about that?quot; He or she will like the fact you asked, and will probably also tell you himself/herself which type of outfit is appropriate and when . If not, he/she will tell you who to ask. One of the scariest things we deal with is new employees who assume they can figure out what to do. We like employees who ask questions.

Business attire, Womans business suit, Grey or blue. do not dress revealing. depending on the firm your working with, observe how others are dressed.

Litigation is more formal. Wear as formal as you have. As an intern in undergrad, slacks and collared shirt should be acceptable altho suits would be ideal. I d wear a suit the first day, and then ask what s appropriate that day. Adjust the next day. Better safe than sorry.

Stick with the classic collared button down dress slacks and a really great pair of pumps.

Prosecutors, by nature, are very conservative. If you are trying to fit in there, and you want to be considered professional, I would stick with the suit.

I d wear a suit, or a blouse/skirt combo with mid-heel pumps. No sandals.

Business professional. NOTHING REVEALING. If after a while you see that those in the office tone it down a bit, then you can too. But ALWAYS, ALWAYS, look better than the paid staff.

Visit the firm and take a look around. Generally, a pair of nice slacks or a skirt (no more than 1quot; above the knee) and a shirt are acceptable. The exception would be if the firm were in downtown NYC or DC. Dress there is much more formal than in other areas. No open toed shoes, no dangling earrings and nothing see-through.

What if the lawyer knows client is guilty but client refuses to plead guilty? -

It s illegal for a lawyer to knowingly put a guilty on the stand to commit perjury, but a guilty plea has to be agreed by the client and the lawyer has a duty to represent his client as the client wishes.

A lawyer cannot let a witness go on the stand if he knows that the witness will lie or if he encourages the witness to lie. It is called quot;subornation perjuryquot;. Testimony by the defendant is included.

5th, amendment No defense attorney in his right mind is going to put his client in the hot chair. You have a right for a trial which is called do process. And equally protection 15th amendment. An attorney can and will be dis barred if he vilotates client confidentiality under rule4.1 through 4.10. meaning everything you say is between you and the attorney. And you are not guilty until proven the prosecutor has the burden of proof beyond a reasonable dought. Also you state an attorney has a duty to represent his client as the client wish. If there is evidence against you it is the defense attorney job represent you zeal and a proper defense to impart doubt in the prosecutors case. And they will listen to you but you do not know the law so let them do their job and they are not going to let you come to so conclusion you can defend your self. Read the information provided below. Take Care. FIFTH AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF PERSONS No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. http://www.law.cornell.edu/anncon/html/a...

Many attorneys, quot;knowquot; their clients are guilty. In such cases they are rarely foolish enough to have that client testify. As for perjury, that is a crime committed by the perjurer, not the defense attorney.

If I were to become a stock broker or a lawyer, what courses in highschool or college should I take? -

Hey, I want to become a stock broker or lawyer (or if you have another high paying job and know what subject to take for it), but I m unsure what subjects I should be taking. I m doing the IB program in highschool and have a year before I choose what courses I get to take by my choice. What should I do?

Post your question in the Higher Education section. The Special Education section is for questions about students with special needs (autism, MR, ADHD, etc).

You may change your mind once you start college... Classes to take: Finance, accounting, economics, business, algebra, philosophy, logic, English, psychology, pre-law. Don t pick a profession based on the money, pick it because you enjoy it. If you do it for the money it won t last long and you ll regret it later in life. Do what you like and the money will follow.

To get into a law college, you generally require a Bachelor s degree. As far as I know, it can be in almost anything, even engineering. However, it is much more commonplace for students planning to take law to study either liberal arts or business, or a combination of the two. History would be a good choice. Some law colleges will admit students with two years of university, especially Arts and Science. However, the policy would vary from university to university, so you would have to check it out. To be a stock broker, a business course would be ideal, but a degree in arts and science with an emphasis on certain subjects could work just as well. I am not sure about any specific requirements. Subjects that might be useful would be economics, calculus, statistics or quantitative analysis, computer programming and business law.

Public speaking, foreign languages, communication etc that would help you be at ease in business meetings would help. Lots of people have the education but not the etiquette to make it in a high-powered environment. Have you checked out the availability of such programs in your area?

Most students change their minds many times before settling on a career. You are growing up in a time when you will more than likely change careers three or four times in your working years. Take subjects that interest you. Liberal arts courses are a good start; business, finance, amp; economics are compatible; or if you are very strong in math go in that direction. You should not focus on money, focus on what makes you happy but still lets you live comfortably. My son is an economics major who plans to go into law. However, I must caution you, when you are a lawyer you mostly deal with a lot of dirt and low-life stuff. It can be depressing unless you stay on the business side, and even then it can get pretty grimey. Stock market folks spend 10-12 hours daily at their jobs. I m talking Wall Street in this case. Take some interest surveys to help you determine a direction. Really, you ve got to love what you do, or there is no joy in life. Both jobs you ve listed require a lot of your time at work and little time for leisure. I could have studied law, but I teach instead because I love it. It certainly hasn t made me wealthy, but I m comfortable and happy.

Stock broker - Accounting, algebra, and maybe economics Lawyer - English and any law subject if it is offered by your school

What is the best way to handle a lawyer who has padded my bill in a very big way? -

A family law attorny has caused me to have a bill about 5 x higher than it should be. What should I do? What is the likelihood I ll have success working with the Texas bar pursuing an ethics or malpractice breach? I think there s nothing weighty that would be considered malpractice except that he s lied a few times (I have that 2x on audio tape) and also he represented a fictitious amount when testifying about the how much he d billed me. (He was too embarassed to tell the court the real amount which was double what he stated.) He s a horrible person and I was a fool. He has a reputation for gouging.

If it really is important to you, try and nail him for it through the TX bar. But you re fighting an uphill battle on this one....you learned the hard way that most lawyers are complete sharks. I can garuntee that he exploited every legal loophole he knows to get that much money from you. Good luck....stick it to him!

And thank you so so so SO much to Alan S. Report Abuse

In Texas, contact the TEXAS LEGAL BAR GRIEVANCE DEPT., in Austin !!! I have had problems with lawyers, many years ago, and used to carry the forms around with me, and passed them out, freely and readily !!!!!! GO TO IT, GAL, EAT THAT LAWYERS LUNCH !!!!!!!!!( FOR BREAKFAST) !!!!!

Tell him that you think that he substantially overcharged you. Tell him what you think is a fair amount for his services and that this is what you would be willing to pay. I would make this amount lower than what you think you owe, so there is some room to negotiate. For example, if he charged you $10,000 and you think you owe $2,000, say you ll pay $1,000, and be willing to negotiate up to $2,000. If he agrees to take the reduced amount as payment in full, make sure you first get a revised bill with the corrected amount before paying. Also write quot;Payment In Fullquot; on the check if you pay by check. You can t take his word for anything. If he refuses the reduced amount, tell him you won t pay a cent until you receive an itemized bill detailing all of the dates and hours worked, who did the work (maybe it was someone else in the firm), and what was done. If he refuses to correct the bill or provide an itemized bill, threaten a malpractice suit. If you get an itemized bill and he overcharged you, this should be useful evidence in a malpractice suit or if he tries to collect and you sue over the bill (not malpractice). For example, maybe he said he did something on a certain date but he was really on vacation. Also, if he lied in court about how much he billed you, that is perjury. I think he could lose his law license for that. The court would have a record of this, since they have stenographers that type up transcripts of the proceedings. You should be able to use this in your discussions with him to your advantage.

I ve tried to work with the Bar Association before but it seems like they side with the attorney...Try speaking to a judge and asking for advice...Maybe contact the Attorney Generals office in your state and ask them for some advice...

How to choose an Estate and Probate lawyer? -

What type of questions should I ask a lawyer? Do you know of a web site that could give me a free referral? I live in California. Thanks

Sites like findlaw.com and lawguru.com have decent search functions. Lawguru.com allows you to ask a question which is sent to all the member-attorneys in the state who practice in the relevant area of law. The kinds of questions I d ask a Trust amp; Estate attorney relate to their experience, their ideas about the specific situation I have, and their knowledge of the relevant tax laws that can impact estates.

I have a judgement against someone for them to pay lawyer but lawyer is after me for the money? -

we have a judgement against our builder finally settled after 4 years. The judgement was for the builder to pay all legal fees plus what he owes us. Now our lawyer is coming after us for the money because they can t get money from the builder. Do not understand why we have to pay when the judgement was against builder.

I wouldn t pay....if you have a judgement that says the builder was supposed to pay your legal fees...tell the attorney to go after the builder....you know what, he (the attorney) knows full well that just because you have a judgement doesn t mean you ll have the money...he knew that going in....he took the case thinking you d pay....now he ll probably try and scare you into paying tell him to take a hike...

I would refer the judgment to a collection firm that is really aggressive. I think that you may be able to fight having to pay the lawyer because of the judgment. Its hard to say, because I don t have the file in front of me. TIP: If a lawyer gives you advice without looking at the whole picture, its probably not good advice. I am an attorney.

The lawyer was working for you. He was contracted by you, not the builder. Therefore, if the lawyer cannot collect from the builder, to whom the liability was assigned, he must collect from somebody. Since you are the one who hired him, you would be the default responsible party for the fees. After that, you can try to collect reimbursement from the builder.

the judgement if for you to get reimbursed for what you paid the attorney. you have to pay the attorney first. welcome to the world of lawyers, in the end they are the only ones to make money. always check to see if the one you are going to sue has anythig left to sue for . be sure to read quot;a feast for lawyersquot; by sol stein. i will open your eyes.

Why does it seem like a doctor and lawyer are the ideal careers? -

I wouldn t want to be them, but why does it seem like everyone wants to one or the other.

At one time they were the most respected because of the level of education you had to receive to get them. The typically left them open only to the rich and elite who could afford college. After the GI Bill let middle classers into college, that attitude started to change. There s still a level of respect associated with these careers due to the pay scale involved, but lawyers have taken the biggest hit due to the amulance chasers all over TV.

These careers will always be needed by people. Computers cannot do these, and you can make a lot of money in these careers.

Bc they require a lot of education and experience to do well. And back in the day those were the professions the people felt contributed most to society

I m one of the everyone then ;) To me, they are one of the most meaningful and challenging jobs (I sound a little idealistic here). Also this I think is what the majority thinks doctors and lawyers are (might not necessarily be true): - highly respected (they got their degrees, they save people and instil justice) - they earn A LOT - the prestige attached to being one of them Just curious, why wouldn t you want to be them? haha

because you re at university indulging in drugs and casual sex for a whole degree longer. and because you re very well paid.

Does a lawyer need a police report to get someones personal banking information? -

I am taking someone to small claims court, they claim that my lawyer wrongfully got their banking information by not having a police report. Is this true?

No, they need a court order.

I will agree with Mr. Goodhi on this one. It would most likely take a court order. A police report is just that, a report of an alleged incident and nothing more.

A police report is not going to help a lawyer get financial information (unless that information is listed in the report).

Should I get a real estate lawyer to handle my house sale? -

I am in the process of selling my late parents home in New Jersey. I live in Florida. Should i retain a lawyer to handle all inquiries?

I d get a lawyer to handle the contracts and your personal business there. Don t know if Jersey is like Florida where the realtors can just handle everything... Since you are in an estate situation... I would...

Where in NJ? In Northern NJ it is customary for both the buyer and seller to retain attorneys. In Southern NJ it is customary for the title company to handle the closing. Since you are out of state it might be best to have an attorney handle it for you regardless of the property location.

If you trust your real estate agent...there s no need for one

Chandigarh High Court lawyer said email are not an authenticate proof to quash FIR of dowry? -

Chandigarh High Court lawyer said that email either they are photostate or on domain(means original) are not an authenticate proof to quash the FIR of Dowry case.Is it true ? Plz tell.

What all I can make out from your this question amp; last question, that you filled a criminal complaint against your Husband for dowry demand, cruelty etc in local Chandigarh court for which your husband moved the High Court in/from U.K. for quashing this dowry complaint, now firstly how come the U.K. High court has any jurisdiction to quash the F.I.R filed by you in India, that too will not so easy as one may think as section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code no doubt which provides inherent powers to the High Court to quash any F.I.R if the facts amp; circumstances of the case so require. Rather the Supreme Court had passed very strict orders against free use of this inherent power by many High Courts to quash the F.I.R in Dowry demand/cruelty matters as usually both parties agree for the withdrawal of the criminal case under section 498A I.P.C amp; the Prohibition of Dowry Act, for that they move the State High Court with Criminal Miscl. Application under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seeking the F.I.R quashed by the High Court thus bringing end to the whole matter. On this issue the Supreme Court has held that this power under section 482 Cr.P.C should only be used in specific cases where the quashing of F.I.R is actually required otherwise irreparable harm will be caused to the party, just to void any injustice the High Court can use this power to quash such F.I.R with regard to dowry demand/cruelty. Let the criminal complaint be completely heard amp; decided on merits by the concerned court, if there is no evidence with regard to dowry demand or cruelty, the criminal charges will fail amp; the accused get discharged/released, otherwise there are provisions for moving the higher court in Appeal against any conviction. Let the proper legal system be followed in these dowry cases too. So you see if your husband amp;/or you, now even decide to get this F.I.R quashed by the High Court of Punjab amp; Haryana in Chandigarh this may not be so easy for you to get it, as far your husband seeking amp; getting an Order of U.K. High Court has no Jurisdiction in this matter. As far conveying of any order/matter to the court by email etc is concerned it has been established law that all electronic messages/mails etc are admissible evidence in the court under the latest amended Evidence Act so to say that High Court of Punjab amp; Haryana will not admit any email for deciding any issue is wrong, but will the said High Court will be bound by any order of any foreign court is doubtful matter based on the well established principle of law. How will the application of your husband u/s482 Cr.P.C for quashing the F.I.R. will be allowed is also a matter of doubt based on the Supreme Court s decisions on application of this provision of the law as I have discussed above. However, unless your complete case file is studied I cannot further comment on this issue.

Its not true! Your lawyer is just pulling a fast one do not belive him - take this as a proof of fooling you and convincing you so that you pay more and use him/her in the high court too. There are a few cases in Chandigarh High Court itself of this - yes in the lower courts since the lawyers and judges are from stone age and illitrate they do not give importance to emails. But High court does. As long as the e-mails still lie on the net and has the ip addresses of the origin with the date and time stamps it will be considered for quash, you could also use the ip locator to prove the origin of the mail ie service providers details and from them pick the exact location of the ip used on that day at that time. You yourself can think of how cybercrime is a crime in the Indian Courts, even that is through emails rt? Not the hacking part but I mean the threats, abuses, defamations, etcs!! Get some good lawyer to pull out citations from chandigarh and delhi high courts there are doezens of them. But just a quick word of note another proof that your lawyer is just bullying you is - for Quashing FIR of dowry - is to prove the FIR/complaint itself wrong ie a battle of words of how they contradict each other and the situation - I hope you get what I mean and you do not need to submit anyother evidences. A Quash is basically proving that the complaint itself is wrong and false and for a different purpose. And all the quashes of 498 across India has been done in the same lines.

First of all tell me about your case DV act or 498a.

he has to establih the mail authincation

How would I find the Lawyer that handled a personal injury case for me in 1978? -

I received a broken jaw from the accident and was a minor so the case was never closed I am 44 yrs. of age now and I m having problems from this how would I find The lawyer that handled my case?

The lawyer may no longer be but the other person was correct , court records. All you need to know is state, county and which courthouse was used in the adjudication of your case. It would help immensely to know the date the case made it to court as well. then ask the clerk of court for help. If the case didn t go to court then try finding the insurance company and asking them

bar association/court records/insurance co records

What kinda grades do i need to be a criminal defense lawyer ? -

i am in grade 10 and i get some B s and mostly c plus so do u guys think i can be a a lawyer ?

Probably not. If you can, it won t be at a big-name firm. You need something very close to a 4.0. If you re lucky, the school you apply to will discount freshman year (most people goof off that year, trying to learn the ropes). If you start now (it s likely about to be second semester for you), and work very hard, you should be able to get into a Law School, if not a very prestigious one. Try hard, and you should make it, but if you have trouble pulling your grades into the quot;Mostly A s, one or two B squot; range, I d reccomend you start looking for another career you d like. A 3.8 GPA or higher would be ideal. In my opinion, you could make it with as low as a 3.2, but lower than that, and probably not.

Law schools don t care about your high school grades. Get high grades to get into a good college. Major in a writing-intensive major, like English. Maintain a high GPA. Take the LSATs. Score high. Get into law school. Survive law school. Graduate. Pass the Bar. Get licensed. Law is actually not *that* tough, but be very, very sure it is something you want to do. Start interning with a local attorney.

When it comes time to apply for Law School, it will be your college grades and performance more than high school that they look at. Of course, to get into a good college you need good high school grades, so if you want to end up going to law school, well you have two more years to apply yourself in high school, and then four years of college, before you even start Law School. Richard

The key to being a good lawyer is not only your ability to achieve a grade level that will allow you to graduate with an LLB, but your ability to recall is paramount to be a good attorney, especially one that specializes in criminal defense. Quick recall and memory is the key.

There are crummy law schools all over the country who will take you if you have the tuition money. Will you get a job after law school - probably not. Check out www.jdunderground.com for the truth about life after law school. It s not pretty.

My best friend is a lawyer. You need A+ or better in high school and 3.4 gpa in college and top 90th percentile on your LSAT. Is it worth it? You bet. She has a great job, that she really loves, and is paid really well.

What type of lawyer do I need to sue a credit card company? -

A good one

it depends upon what you re sueing them for. What is your alleged cause of action?

A contracts attorney used to going up against big companies. Also check the terms of your credit agreement, you will probably need to sue them where they want you to (often Delaware or Florida) because of the terms of your agreement with them. You would need to retain an attorney licensed in that state.

How can I find a good immigration lawyer? -

My aunt got married to a US citizen. They got married in the country of her citizenship. However, for some strange reason, her husband s petition was denied. He, of course, appealed it. Besides, he wrote two more petitions, both of which were approved. However, the American embassy in the country of her citizenship says that they are not going to issue her a visa until they hear a positive response to my uncle s first petition s appeal. This process has been going on for 3 years now. This is becoming unbearable and the dilemma now is: should my uncle withdraw his appeal and expect the Embassy to let his wife in based on two approved petitions. Or should he continue waiting for the appeal decision, not knowing how much longer he has to wait. I will appreciate if someone can recommend us a lawyer who can help us with this case.

Which state are you in? If you are in California there are tons of attorneys here. When my husband and I married we went to see Matthew Spaulding in Culver City. He was a great guy who gave us some free advice and was really honest and dependable and didn t talk down to us. We did get married here in the states however so our situation is different from yours but he is an excellent lawyer and a pretty easygoing guy considering. His phone (310) 287-3510 at 9696 Culver Blvd., Ste. 103, Culver City, CA 90232. I highly recommend him for easy to understand instructions and fair treatment. If you are not in California just go online for the area and you will find someone but referrals are always nice. We have been married for 5 years now and my husband has really prospered here so it waws worth the money, which was low in comparison to other places we tried. If you lose this he is listed online. Good Luck

You need a lawyer, Three years is a long time. Where to find them.. easy.. if you can not look in the yellow book.. they are usually around the INS offices or within those areas.. Good luck

I need more info; what country is his wife from? What petitions (exact number (i-130 or what?) did he file? When did he file them? Did he do them alone or w/ an attorney? Worst case scenario: he should register for an infopass appointment on Uscis.gov

Try jail...

How much does it cost to hire an immigration lawyer? -

my husband is planning to file for his US citizenship, he s been a green card holder for almost 7 years, he already filed a petition for me and our daughter, is it possible that if my husband hire an immigration lawyer, our daughter and i will immigrate faster to the US?

No. The process takes the same amount of time no matter who prepares the paperwork. With your husband having a Green Card it will take just over 5 years for you and your child to get a visa. After he becomes a citizen it should only take 8 to 12 months. To prepare and file your hustand s citizenship application in addition to a petition for you and your daughter you re looking at fees of at least $3,500 to $4,000. Save the money, do it yourself.

If you have money and visible means of legal support, it will not be hard for you to get to be a US Citizen. If you are non-working, going on welfare type of people then it will take years. Hiring an attorney can cost from $1000 to $10000.

If its really important, most lawyers ll usually just take all the money you have right now and the promise of all the money you can borrow quickly from friends and family.

an attorney will not help expedite your case, but they will make sure all the forms are filled out properly, the fees are all the right amount, and everything is in order, you can pay an extra 1,000 to have your case expedited in some circumstances.

You may want to consider filing all the papers yourselves. The benefit of an Immigration Lawyer is they know all the forms and where and when to file them. There is NOTHING a lawyer can do to speed up the process. All the forms and instructions are available for free to download. Make sure you read them carefully and fill them out completely or they will be rejected and the process will take longer.

200$ an hour.1000$ Retaining fee.Alot of patience

In your opinion, how could a divorced lawyer be a better man? -

The lawyer was not bad or even a professional greedy thief.

He may have filed the divorce himself for his ex-wife s misconduct.

How do I expand my business as a young lawyer? In my mind , lawyer should not be a businessman .? -

I think being a lawyer is something different . But right now , I have to work like a businessman , instead of staying in the office dealing with all kinds of documents . Hating being a seller as much as I can .

If you run your own firm, you are a business owner; there s just no way of getting around that. If you re doing well enough, you might eventually HIRE a business manager to handle the office and staff for you, but starting out, if your name is on the door, it s your deal; like it or not. Since it s your profits, its in your best interest to learn to deal with it. Lawyer, plumber, painter; whatever, business ownership is business ownership. Many of the tasks are the same, only the industry and core knowledge changes.

How can an english lawyer moving to the US join the US legal systema nd work.? -

I have just moved to America from London. My field of profession is law and been wondering how to enter the American legal system and work. Does anyone out there know what steps I should take in order to work in America as a lawyer? I will appreciate your answers. Thank you.

You have to take the exam, here in the U.S. if a lawyer moves from one state to the next he has to take the exam for that state. Start studying

Do you consider being a lawyer even though some people say that this is a job for liars? -

I have a friend who wants to be a lawyer someday but she s having second thoughts about it. She always feel dsicouraged whenever somebody says a negative remark of this job. They say that this job will only make you an expert liar. When you have a client ang admitted that his a murderer, as a lawyer you should do all you can to prove that your client is innocent though he/she is not and that s lying.

I emailed my cousin about this...she is a lawyer. Here s her reply: quot;I wouldn t worry too much about how other people look at a profession. I can tell you that if a client admits guilt to you and wants you to prove them innocent, then you as the litigator have the option as to whether or not you want to continue to represent them. This is a common misconception of lawyers. Not every lawyer chooses to defend a guilty party, in fact over 95% of us WILL NOT defend a known guilty party. The ones that do are usually greedy with no conscious and are only looking at the money they get based on the outcome. Those are the ones who give the other 95% of us a bad name. Usually most violent civil crimes get left to the public defender, who in most cases, won t try very hard to defend a known guilty party. You don t have to get into the violent civil cases (beatings, shootings, murders or rape) there are several other options available to you.quot;

I do not consider a lawyer a job for liars, but you do have to lie sometimes. You do not have to represent the bad guys i believe also.

Don t listen to what other people think. They are jealous because they don t have the intelligence to succeed. Tell your friend to follow her heart. First, human beings are natural born liars. It starts right from the time your mom asks if you were the one and you say no mom it wasn t me. Hell, we all lie but that shouldn t stop anyone from pursuing their dream.

I believe that there are still lawyers who only do quot;what is rightquot;, i.e. what their conscience tells them to. A lawyer could choose not to take up a case and/or represent a potential client if he/she is uncomfortable with it. It is not going to be easy though, but if one has the resolve to do so, I believe one could always try to do the quot;rightquot; thing. I wish your friend all the best!

Hi, Don t let people s criticisms bring you or your friend down on this job. Not all lawyers defend vicious criminals. As a lawyer, you have the right to deny a client. Lawyers often have to exaggerate truths to get what they want, but it s a career of charisma rather than grueling robbery. Lawyers are often involved in business law, settling divorces, other legal documents, and do not directly face quot;criminalquot; defense cases. Even if you study law, you don t have to be a lawyer if you do decide not to be one. Law can be applied to many occupations one can choose to be part of. A popular example is business. Best of luck!

Whether a corporate, criminal, civil, or public service attorney, one cannot succeed without using intimidation techniques successfully. To intimidate well, one must lie creatively, often, eloquently, and well. Therefore, lawyering and lying are synonymous. Sorry. Maybe your friend can find a different profession if lying bothers her. I like her already; lying certainly bothers me!

don t listen to those haters. being a lawyer is to defend someone who is not in a position to defend him/herself. you help consumers who have been ripped off, accused people who have been framed etc. any profession where you help people is an honorable one, it can be anything from fixing someone s ulcer or whatever to serving them breakfast. as long as your conscience is clear let people talk they re probably just jealous of the kind of money lawyers make.

thats wrong. u are misguided. If u tell a lawyer u commited it. his job is not to lie but to defend u and find u a minimum of sentence honestly. one can be trutful and still be a lawyer amp; be successful too. so take it ez.

Lawyers are not liars. Lawyers simply investigate the sometimes elusive truth of a case. If your friend is giving this much thought to the issue, please become a lawyer. You have values and morals. We need you.

I am not to fond of any of the lawyers I have dealt with but I sure wouldn t mind having their paycheck. It is a dog eat dog society. Lawyers make some nice cake and that is all that matters no matter what anyone says.

It is one of the most respected professions. You can make a lot of difference in the society. Nobody can force you to lie unless you want to!
