How do you become a lawyer in America if you are a solicitor in Scotland? -

I am currently studying Law at Aberdeen University and wish to qualify here and perhaps practice in Edinburgh, but i have always wanted to practice in America, perhaps Boston or New York, but i would like any information on the best way to do this in my current situation. Thanks.

If you want to come to this country, you need the okay from our government - PASSPORT, VISA. Then check your immigrant status - do you have a sponsor in America? That is the first hurdle. If you can t stay here, you can t practice law here. Then you can study to pass the Bar Exam in the state you want to practice. If you pass you can practice law in that state, Massachusetts or New York.

You wouldn t be able to be an actual lawyer in the U.S. without passing the bar. This entails graduating from an accredited U.S. law school, unfortunately. You might be able to work in some sort of advisory capacity at a firm, but as for practicing law here, you would have to actually go through good ol American law schoolin .
