How can I find the name of the prosecution lawyer from a case I viewed in court? -

I am a student and last week went to court to watch some cases so that I could do a report. At the time I didn t get the name of the prosecution lawyer and have since tried to phone them but can t get through to speak to anyone. Is there any resource online that lists details of cases that have been in court? It was a magistrates court and I have a reference number and details of the defendant. Thanks

You would have to do this informally. You could phone the listing office, explain that you are a student and were doing this as part of your studies, and ask them who the prosecution lawyer was in that particular court. The clerk of the court always notes the name of the prosecutor as part of the court record. Sometimes it is a CPS employee and at other times it will be a solicitor or barrister briefed by the CPS for that day. The best time to do this is at about nine o clock in the morning, before things get too busy.

The best way is to phone your local fiscal s office - where all their offices are and describe him. However if you have the name of the defence lawyer it might be worth asking him if no luck with the fiscal, however the fiscal s office should be able to give you all the information. Worst comes to worst go back to court and ask the reception and perhaps the clerk of court who was in that day as they might know him from always being in the court building. You also might see the prosecutor there when you visit again.
